Understood. However, SDSU was shut out this year. Look at the schools in ESPNs top 40 recruiting class for 2016 above us outside of Blue Blood and top P5 MBB universities: Harvard #8 Auburn #9 Alabama #10 Miss State #21 UMass #25 USC #33 GA #35 Seriously, tell me did any of these schools make the NCAA tourney last year or for the last 6 years in a row. We can't land a 4-star kid and these schools do. Some multiple 4-stars? How much is the negative recruiting hurt us and is there any truth to the allegations. How about the schools we recruit against? Western Schools: UNLV #11 UCLA #12 ASU #16 Gonzaga #23 Oregon #30 USC #33 BYU #35 Texas #39 2016 IS A DARK YEAR IN AZTEC RECRUITING: No Smith, No Cage (both to Oregon), No Stanback (Stanford), No Bailey (Marquette) No Jackson (UConn), No Johnson (UNLV) & both Mathews + Melton to USC??? Cyrus (DePaul), Fraser (VCU), Bassett (FLA), Johnson (Utah), Moore (Tulane), Ekiyor (Xavier) even Fitts (USF) + Johnson and Ekiyor reclassifed to 2015 and can play in Spring. TJ LEAF? would make it 100% better. First change your name to chicken little. Next relax and trust that our coaching staff knows More than you do. Next have fun and enjoy the games!

Next year's class will be something else, no doubt. Should be a seamless transition next year, not matter the personnel losses.

So now we're in pretty okay shape at the 4 & 5 positions for next season, even if we don't land Leaf or anyone as a "true Center" later on. The combination of McDaniels, Narain, Hoetzel, and Cheatham gives us 4 guys to compete for minutes in the frontcourt. All Fr & So, and lacking a bit perhaps as true interior threats, but all very skilled players able to go both inside & out.

This week Aztecs should get an NLI from Jalen McDaniels. With all the talk of TJ Leaf the board has been quiet about Jalen, but I think he could be a valuable player for the team over the long haul, good length and upside. Also, I consider him to be part of the same class of players who will become eligible in 2016, including Montaque Gill-Caesar, Max Hoetzel, and Nolan Narain. That is a great class of players already. If TJ Leaf joins the group, it will be an epic class. Jalen and Nolan have a good chance of sticking around and playing together for 4 years and i expect big things from both over their Aztec careers. Anyway, my point is that we should celebrate Jalen joining the group this week, regardless of TJ Leaf's decision. I am stoked already about the transfers and Nolan Narain and now Jalen McDaniels eligible next year for us! I think it was Ziegler who reported that the best player in practice this year the first few weeks was Montaque Gill-Caesar, which I think bodes well for us. Looking forward to this year and beyond! Just a chance that Leaf will come and I hope that Malik stays 2 more years! One can hope.......right?

adding transfers is better in some ways than a getting a freshmen because they are more seasoned and have no choice but to work hard since it'll be their shot D1 chance. Otherwise, they end up like Tyrone Shelley or Troy Leaf who went down to DII. Fish has had a great track record with transfers other than Shelley and James Johnson. 2016 will be great regardless of Leaf but would be huge to get him. You bet the transfers were in his ear to come here. I wouldn't put Tyrone Shelley in that mix so much, he never had a chance to recover from a difficult foot injury. He tried to play through it but just lost too much effective athleticism, so dropped down a level so he could keep playing. I'd say the guy played through more pain as an Aztec than maybe just about anyone other than Tim Shelton. Other than that, I completely agree. You got there first. Pretty tough to judge a kid who had that injury.
