Some of Horton's offense is boring and reminds me of Dave Lay's attempt at snoozing for paychecks. But, Lay had good QBs and WRs who ended up in the NFL to work with.
Horton has QBs who couldn't start at most other schools and WRs who couldn't get open versus non-scholarship FCS players. You try being imaginative with this personnel group of talented RBs, a below average line with terrible WRs and QBs. See what you come up with.
I'd run the damn veer, while putting in a mobile QB, bore everyone of you halfway fans and win games with the best rushing attack in the nation.

We'll I'd run a hell of a lot more play action than Horton has been. Does he even have a play action pass in his playbook? The veer has been Vista's main offensive play for decades. If you've got a decent offensive line it's a great offense - and fun to watch, too!

The line sucks and gives Smith no time? Then try some short intermediate routes and 3 step drops. WRs can't get open then try sending them in motion to get a free release or try a pick play. Last night was the first time I have seen them run a screen play all year and it netted them 15 yards, did they ever go back to it? No... Horton is a horrible play caller, its not that he lacks creativity its that he lacks vision and has no ability to set plays up.

Dave Lay at least knew how to utilize the talent he had. He also knew how to make an Offense act and move and SCORE. Horton is flat clueless sorry to say...
Missed the game, read the comments just remember sitting at Penn State watching a Pop Warner level OC WASTE the last 6 minutes of the game with Huddles (8-18 seconds per)and run up the middle although down by 17. Insanity.
Our talent is under utilized.

I think the passing offense is so bad is that Horton doesn't know how to run a passing offense. Put Coryell in with the same QB and receivers and you would see the passing offense 10 times better.
