Football Begins Quest To #Win20
* The two teams that finished tied atop the West Division of the Mountain West meet Saturday when Fresno State travels to America’s Finest City to face San Diego State. Kickoff is set for 7:34 p.m. PT.
* Saturday marks the 962nd game in SDSU history and will be the 55th against Fresno State. That is the most against any opponent in school history.
* The Aztecs begin their quest for a 20th conference title in school history. Rocky Long guided SDSU to its most recent crown, a 2012 shared title with Boise State and Fresno State (Mountain West had one division that season). As previously mentioned, the Aztecs did claim a share of the 2014 West Division title (does not count toward the program total of 19 championships).
* San Diego State has won six consecutive conference home games, dating back to a 35-28 loss to No. 15 Fresno State on Oct. 26, 2013.
* The Aztecs have won 12 straight home contests against unranked conference opponents. That is the sixth-longest active streak (fifth among teams currently in a conference) in the country (Clemson, 21) and the longest active streak in the Mountain West.
* During the 12-game home conference win streak against unranked opponents, San Diego State has outscored its opposition, 419-210. An average score of 34.9 to 17.5. The Aztecs are +16 in turnover margin those dozen games.
* San Diego State has lost three consecutive games in a season for the first time since opening the 2013 campaign 0-3. That season, the Aztecs won their next three games and seven of their next eight contests and ended the season 8-5.
* According to ESPN Team Efficiencies, San Diego State has the nation’s top-ranked special teams in the country. The Aztecs currently lead the country in kickoff return average (35.67).
* Sophomore Rashaad Penny, who earned Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week honors, leads the nation in kick return average at 45.1. He is one of three players in the country to have two KR for touchdowns this season.
* San Diego State is tied with Buffalo and Texas for second in the nation in non-offensive touchdowns this season with four (Utah, 5). The Aztecs have returned two kickoffs and two interceptions for touchdowns.
* Junior linebacker Calvin Munson, who earned national defensive player-of-the-week honors by two organizations for his performance on Sept. 5, is in a three-way tie for the national lead with two interception returns for touchdown this season. He also leads the team in tackles for loss (5) and sacks (2.5).
* San Diego State’s offensive unit is a perfect 8-for-8 in the red zone this season. The Aztecs are one of just 11 teams nationally, and the only team in the Mountain West that has posted points in every red zone opportunity in 2015.
* Junior running back Donnel Pumphrey continues to be an offensive weapon for the Aztecs. In addition to leading the team in rushing yards (305), he currently leads the squad in receptions (14) and is second in receiving yards (145). He is 16 receiving yards shy of eclipsing his total from the entire 2014 campaign.
* Senior linebacker Jake Fely returned from an injury that kept him out for one game with a huge contest at Penn State. The Oceanside, Calif., product had a team-high 10 tackles , including two tackles for loss in the contest. Despite missing a game, he leads the team this season in stops with 30.
* Senior placekicker Donny Hageman continues to have a sensational season. He is 5-for-6 in field goal attempts with a long of 54 (kicked at sea level), which is the third-longest made in the nation in 2015.
