Dead on balls right!!! One doesn't have to look any further than what the arena meant to basketball. The players (recruits) come to play in an atmosphere that is exciting, lively and fun. Most players won't go anywhere further (as far as turning pro). Why spend their college days in a graveyard??
Get it done already.

Nailed it, Marshall. If you build it, they (recruits) will come.

Grant interview by Marty. Appreciate her bringing up SDSU as one of her talking points. That fact that the question was pointed and allowed Marshal to expound on a key part of SDSU's program shows insight from both of them.

Most players won't go anywhere further (as far as turning pro). Why spend their college days in a graveyard?? Get it done already. Exactly! Recruits go to different schools for many many reasons. (Immediate playing time, grades, location, conference, style of play) But despite all of that, SDSU i'm sure misses out on many recruits because of the atmosphere, support and culture of football. It IS GROWING with the "success" we've had the past few seasons, but... if the Administration were to make the 'investment' in the football program, just as they did with the basketball, there is no doubt it will pay off BIG time in the long run. A SDSU/MLS size & caliber on campus stadium on campus would really further the College Area into being a true College football atmosphere for ONE day each week! And that will make it a real San Diego Event, which is just what basketball has become here in our city.

1. Build the NFL stadium in tandem with the convention center expansion downtown.
2. Have SDSU buy (via the State) the current Mission Valley stadium site.
3. Expand the SDSU campus on the MV site with new housing, biz school, research park, maybe law school, and, oh, yeah, stadium
4. For all those who worry about the cost to taxpayers of an NFL stadium, the productivity gains and outright economic injection from a new convention center and from boosting SDSU enrollment to 50k+, would more than offset it.
5. I've been preaching this tune on this board (and earlier incarnations) since about 1998. Not sure why our genius politicians, Spanosites haven't figured this out.

The plaza will have a 52 week revenue stream. A football stadium only generates maybe 8 weeks of revenue. Big difference.

The Stub Hub Center is also a smaller venue and easier to fill, giving it a chance to be profitable. Hell, build a 19,000 (or so) seat arena in downtown San Diego and see how many days it would get used.

Totally agree with you on MV as only viable option. I know the campus community fairly well and I know of nowhere to put a stadium
