And the #1 rated qb in the pac 12. Good receivers as well. Should be a great test for our D!

247 just came out with top 5 D's and Penn State is number 5 . Our offense had better get its act together quickly.

Well...their D can't be much worse than last year.
Penn State's D...now it is going to be a very long game for the Aztecs if the offense plays like it did last year. IF the O-line hasn't got it together and the QB play isn't good, they have the ability to make it a very frustrating game for us to watch.

Best case for Cal's D is for it to be mediocre. And that requires a lot of key guys staying healthy.

All this before a game is even played. Let them prove their inflated ratings on the field (when we play them). Then I'll believe it.
Recall, we were 20+ underdogs against Ohio State and gave them a scare (on their home field).
Anything can happen.

Cal's defense was horrible last year, opponents routinely scored 50+ on these guys. It also features former SDSU recruit Mustafa Jalil, remember him Aztec Fans?
Run to set up the pass. Control the clock with Pumphrey, Price and Penny and limit the possessions for Goff. This will be a good test for SDSU's Defense, if they can rely on their cornerbacks to cover the Cal receivers and bring the heat on Goff, this will be a glorious Aztec victory.

I think it was cbssports that ranks Cal's D as #8 in Pac -12. Isn't their kicking game suspect also?

This is spot on. It's going to be strength on strength and weakness against weakness in almost every aspect of this game. Goff's interception rate last year was one of those lowest in the country which was impressive given most defenses knew he was going to throw it a lot.

our punter is pretty inconsistent. he has a huge leg, but shanks it with regularity. the kickers looked terrible in the spring, but dykes says they've improved. either way, it's likely not a strength of the team.
