Here for good or a stepping stone? I'm sure it'll depend on PT, potential PT down the road, and the relative importance of both in his mind. And probably his financial status. The fact he chose to walk on rather than ride elsewhere starts to speak to that though. He might be one to fight it out for 4 years at a better place than play against lesser comp? Earn the scholly AQ-style. If so, more power to the old school types! Stoked to see him play, but better yet excited by the fact we can now have a serious 3-pt competition with Pope, Shrigs, Max and Perez!

How many walk ons have NBC Sports write about them? Let they audition or experiment begin. I am all in on any shooter who can hit from three. collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/07/could-a-walk-on-help-san-diego-state-with-its-perimeter-shooting-woes/Here is what Ben said about playing on the Mesa: “When the coaches laid out the situation and the track record they have with walk-ons and the chance I’d have this year, I felt it was the best opportunity for me,” Perez said. “They wrote down the whole depth chart and broke it down for me. They said: “There are really only one or two players at your position.’ “They didn’t make any promises obviously, they just told me I’d have an opportunity. But this is probably the best year to walk on.”

For 2016 we have 8 or 9 scholarships being used, so that means we could offer 4 scholarships , 5 if Malik leaves , . But would guess the coaches will not go more then 11 or 12 , to leave room , for at least 1 or 2 transfers/reclassify/ walk on ? . So with that being the case how would you use the 3 or 4 , what positions C, PF , SF , SG ?? Are you saying Ben Perez could get one ? Believe we should have 3 for 2017 .

Welcome to the Mesa Ben! It says a lot about the program that he is walking on despite scholarship possibilities elsewhere. SDSU hoops obviously doesn't have the history of the blue bloods but the game atmosphere and the program's reputation/recognition in the community is becoming comparable. Exciting times.

He looked pretty athletic on that dunk over the guy from the baseline in that summer league video.
Any shooting is welcomed, especially with Shrigs on the shelf...I have a feeling either this kid or U'u or perhaps Federico is going to come off the bench and hit some shots.

Considering he was at Air Force he is a MW-talented player, right? Bottom line is he is a quality basketball player with good size for a guard and a skill set that is needed for SDSU. Between Perez and U'u we have 2 D1 caliber players as walk-ons who can shoot from the outside. Nothing wrong with that.

Hoping he can shoot it and learn good defense and EARNS a scholarship the following year. Would be great if he has the mettle to do that and would strongly support him getting one and hopefully the following year for a total of 3 years on the mesa. Again, I welcome him to the Mesa! Put in a lot of time in the new JAM Center and get it done. Have a feeling that he will have plenty of competition in the new building. Love how Fish makes them earn minutes. I believe that we will win!

He played for their prep school, which most of the freshman do (according to Zeigler's article). Not sure if he would have made the 'varsity' team had he not transferred.

Not sure if he would have made the 'varsity' team had he not transferred. He led the prep school in scoring. That's like their freshman team. I'd say he'd stand a pretty good chance to make it.

does anyone believe he has scholarship potential or is this just a launch pad? The beauty is we have at least a year to find out. Don't think we can even guess right now, unless you go solely on level of attention he got during recruiting by teams of our level (minimal)?
