redshirted his freshman year. Oh, then forget it. I'm wrong. Unless maybe he gets a medical redshirt. Currently not possible per NCAA policy. The only way to get a sixth year medical red shirt is if he had one previously. His red shirt was administrative so he doesn't qualify. That doesn't mean that they wouldn't consider a policy waiver but I can't recall one being granted to us before.

It sucks seeing any player get hurt like that. We have one less shooter this year but I am ok with him not playing. Maybe Fisher didn't give him the green light to shoot, but when he had open looks they were almost always bricks.

A hard working young man's collegiate dreams have been derailed. He will not get this season back. This team could really use Shrigley and his "bricks" this year. Don't be a dick.

Shrigs like all the other players had offers to go other universities but chose SDSU. For that, we need to be loyal back.

Basic Qualifications
To qualify for a medical redshirt, a basketball player must sustain an “incapacitating injury or illness.” The injury or illness does not have to be related to basketball, but must take place after the first day of classes in the athlete’s senior year of high school. To gain a medical redshirt for a specific season, the athlete’s illness or injury must occur before the first game of the second half of the team’s schedule. If the team plays an odd number of games, the exact midseason contest is considered part of the second half. For example, if a basketball team plays 25 games, the injury or illness must occur before the start of the team’s 13th game. Games played in postseason tournaments, such as a conference tournament or the NCAA or NIT tournaments, count among the team’s total games played. Games Played
To gain a medical redshirt, the athlete cannot compete in more than 30 percent of her team’s games within a season, not counting contests officially designated as scrimmages or exhibition games. When such computations are made, fractions are rounded up. For example, if a team plays 27 games, the exact 30 percent mark is 8.1. For the purposes of medical redshirt eligibility, therefore, the player may compete in nine games and still be eligible for a medical redshirt. Sixth Year
In cases where a player takes a standard, nonmedical redshirt season, then later is granted a medical redshirt, the player has six years in which to complete his four seasons of basketball eligibility. Administration
The administration of a medical redshirt request is handled by a school’s conference. If the school is not a member of an athletic conference, the NCAA Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement administers the hardship request. The committee also reviews appeals of medical redshirt requests that are denied at the conference level. Medical documentation is required with every medical redshirt request.
Could there be a chance Matt Shrigley gets that 6th year??

Matt was encouraged every day in practice to shoot any time he was open in games . When you rely on your getting open for your shot , not being able to create it off the dribble , it is also a matter of confidence , hit your first shot and the basket seems to expand and you take more shots . Miss the first one or two and your confidence drops . Matt was streaky hot some games , cold in others . To me something that may have helped him was going to the basket / scoring more often to get into the flow of the game . He was also 100% on FT last year (6 for 6) but only drew 3 shooting fouls . Hope his rehab goes well and the Aztecs are in the battle for MW championship when he gets back . May also help for the staff to try to get information about a waiver for an additional year from the NCAA . NCAA is not always consistent with all their decisions . But they could say if he is ready to play in Feb ,then he should play . Not ready until March then maybe give him an additional year . Who knows

Cheatham is in a fight for a starting job against Kell and Allen. If Cheatham wins the starting job Shepard plays SG. Losing a guard makes Winston more important this year. A big lineup with shooters off the bench was easy to in 2014 when X Thames controlled the ball every possession. This year I don't think Fisher will want to do that with a freshman PG.

Hemsley is going to play 25 minutes a game or more, unless he crashes and burns. He has much better PG skills then Kell. I watched him a few times in HS, he can drive and kick, get people involved and hit a open J.

Win Shep for 3! It's goooooooooddddddddddddd! Sounds nice but I want Shep to be in CSU beast mode he was in the MWC Tournament ALL year long this season. Shep vs slow footed 3's and 4's defending sounds much better to me than him at SG.
All the best to Shrigs and hope he mends quick!

Not a true PG, and I am not sure why it's a funny comment. He didn't play PG in HS.

JH played both PG(HS) and SG(AAU) . He also was good enough to play in All Star game with some of the top 20 HS recruits . Was brought in to play PG . Let JH start out day one at PG , will he make mistakes yes, but so did others who were not PG's in HS . Kell is not a PG, his position in HS was SG , let him stay there and concentrate on his natural position . Williams can back up JH . Allen can back up Kell and also play SF . He is also a good defender and rebounder . A SG does not just have to be a three point shooter but a guy that can Score be it outside shot , jumper or taking to the basket for a lay up or draw fouls He brings a lot of things to the Aztec team that can be valuable on both ends of the court . Would also be a great time for Spencer and Chol to realize we need them to produce near the basket. Another very important part of Winston's game he can play any one of the 5 positions, something we do not appreciate enough . Almost all the Aztecs can play more then one position , so use them . This happened before Fall practice. so the team can adjust the offense , which should rely more on using the athletic skills of the guys the coaches recruited . Get rebounds , get into transition quickly and go attack the basket . Adjust the offense to fit your players , not force players to adjust to 1 style of play. We now have a very good group to play regular D and even zone. 9 quality scholarship players and U .
Getting a sixth year for a player , every case is different and the NCAA is very unpredictable on who gets it and who does not . Take a look at the previous write up about getting the sixth year . We all wish Matt a quick but thorough recovery and hope that when he is ready to play the team will be battling for MW Championship , and long run in MM .

After doing research/homework on the ACL injury and talking with a classmate who is an Orthopod surgeon it looks like the 6 month scenario is pretty much agreed upon. It could be less than that and usually is with athletes because they are younger and in better condition than others and heal faster. Plus Matt has the benefit of the SDSU med. staff and people to assist in his recovery. Think that if he heals well we might see him before or early January. Good luck Matt!

Might take 6 months but doubt he'll be full speed when he gets back.
