Feel bad for Shrigley. He's been all about team and hate to see something like this happen to a good kid.

Pope isn't same weapon offensively. Defensives will key on him now and not allow wide open jumpshots. He was under radar last yr. He can't cut off high screens and fade baseline like Shrigley and when he does quickly utilize a perimeter screen the first inclination will be penetration. Just my opinion but the loss is hugely damaging unless someone else can create perimeter offense. "defenders will key on him:"? how many teams have an agile, quick big body to chase Pope outside and then prevent or even bother his shot? Those big enough, Pope will drive past, those not big enough he'll shoot over.

Nolan has not made up his mind if he is coming here in 2015(rather then 2016) but has said he really prefers to red shirt and the coaches have told him they agree .
The Aztec coaches recruit players that can play multiple positions ,so if everyone stays healthy then having the 9 scholarship players , could work out . With U also available at the Two. All the three guards can play either position. Winston can play all the positions down low and even guard positions . Malik can play the 2 to 5 positions . Zylan both forward positions . In a pinch Chol can slide to PF . Definitely PT for all those who are healthy and working on their game . Is there a problem with the 5 starters Spencer, Pope , Shepard , Kell , JH and Cheatham all giving the team about 25 minutes with Chol , Allen and Williams about 17 minutes.
Same reports saying that Kell is more comfortable back at SG , working on his outside shot , believe he was brought into be a scorer, time to show it, D. Allen also working on his outside shot . If we do more at attacking the basket it also is in Allen's wheelhouse taking it to the basket. But most important hope they do not start thinking they need to become a three point shooter if they are not . Adjust the offense a little, with more importance on getting the rebounds and making every effort to get into transition mode and then really going to the basket . Let JH and Williams run the offense . We primarily recruit athletic guys , let them use those skills on offense as well as defense.

Very sad news. While this team is deep I was still counting on him to get open looks on the outside. Kell is going to have to fill that role now.

It definitely is a major loss with him out, but I believe the rest of his team mates will improve their shooting and one or two may take up the slack.
Hopefully he could be back by the time Tournament season starts. May he have a quick recovery.

Man this really sucks. We need him huge. But I keep thinking of all those times we've heard a player in any given sport will be out X-amount of time, but ends up coming back like 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule.
Work hard, Shrigs. Get that LCC sh*t in gear!!

BTW, this will likely screw up our recruiting.
Shrigs is now here a year longer, which I expect may cause shooting guards to shy away from committing for 2016.
We have 4 and maybe 5 scholies for 2016. That's a lot of spots to fill with top-shelf talent.

How is he here a year longer? I don't think he used his redshirt yet. Absent injury, he should be a senior in 2016.

We passed on 5th year senior SG Lonnie Jackson from BC as we were waiting on Buddah to pass his SATs. Jackson is a 6'3 170 guard from Valenica who averaged 8-9 points a game for three years and shot 38% from three.

November is where Aztecs will get their seeding come March. They are not a break away team in conference and the non conference schedule can produce some quality wins. If and it's a major if, Pope can produce early on then things will obviously open up. But I am concerned he can't. I feel him not making the u19 team over some others on that squad was a msg to us Aztec fans that he is still a yr away. Limited hs w injuries and big time college ball is a whole new world. I hope I'm wrong!

Yes, we're down to 9 scholarship players and if any others get hurt...well our bench is not that deep.

Jackson is a 6'3 170 guard from Valenica who averaged 8-9 points a game for three years and shot 38% from three. From SDUT: SDSU would have cover in the backcourt had it taken Lonnie Jackson, a fifth-year senior transfer from Boston College with deep perimeter range who would have been eligible immediately. Jackson, a 6-4 guard originally from Valencia, was believed to have the Aztecs at the top of his list, but SDSU opted to honor its scholarship commitment to prep recruit Brodricks “Buddah” Jones despite still needing a qualifying SAT score.
