Iowa state is also an AAU university if memory serves me correctly.

This article is one man's opinion.
I believe Sterk is knocking on the Big12's door and presenting his case. We will see. I am waiting for an SDSU writer/fan to pen an article on why SDSU should be included in the Big12. Once something is written and can be shared dialogue starts just like this one.
Anybody know any writers that can put a piece out there that lobbies for SDSU?

C'mon guys. The only realistic choice for us is to become so attractive that we become a member of the PAC 13. And that is a pipe dream. Of course I would prefer to be a member of the PAC 12. However, IMO one of the only ways that happens is in the scenario above. If the BIG XII offers SDSU membership the PAC 12 may wish to protect their TV and recruiting markets. They may decide it is better to only compete for TV & recruits with SDSU as a conference-mate vs. competing against SDSU and the other 13 members of the BIG XII. Maybe there is a backroom deal where the Big 12 leaves SDSU alone if the Pac-12 stops trying to woo Texas et al?

You won't get that because as things stand now, Texas likes that leverage that they get from that option. It's a big scare-tactic weapon in their arsenal to keep the other members at bay over the LHN.

I don't buy Cinn. to the B12. Simply put, it's Buckeye Country. Cinn. is not really into their own team and they will never compete with tOSU, PSU, Mich., ND for recruits or viewers. I think if the B12 wanted any of these teams, it would have already happened. Actually, the Cincy metro area is overwhelmingly supportive of UC. The largest majority of UC alumni live in the Cincy metro area, and the TV ratings locally favor UC. Nippert Stadium seats 35,000 and there are no fans dressed as empty seats. After upgrades the stadium is Rice-Eccles (Utah) quality. Attendance figures closest to CVG in the Big 12 is Kansas. After that the attendance figures sky rocket. As I do believe CVG would be a viable member of the Big 12 based on what they could bring to the table, including a winning program, (ranked 10th in FBC top records since 2007, 75-29) some serious history, (google Sid Gillman), and solid community support, AGAIN, I'm hard pressed to ever imagine Aztec football on this level. And the reasons speak for themselves. Again, my time in Florence, Kentucky gave me a pretty good handle on Bearcat football.

Here is the recent attendance averages for Cincinnati's Nippert stadium: 2011- 10 win season- 26,158 2012- 10 win season- 29,137 2013- 9 win season- 31,770 In 2014 they played in Paul Brown stadium 3 miles from campus and averaged 28,839 (9 wins). How will lowly SDSU ever compete with mighty Cincinnati? A better question is why they hell did they expand Nippert from 35K to 40K?

Yet Cincinnati remains, almost certainly, a much more likely candidate for Big12 expansion than SDSU. This would be a great time for SDSU to bump up to consistent 10 win seasons vs. 8 wins (regular season). And to build our own 40k seat stadium.
Sigh.

Would guess most B12 schools and the conference , are busy trying to get their teams ready for a good season , trying to get at least 1 team in the playoffs , getting as many teams in the top 25 and more fans in their stadiums . Then do an evaluation what it looks like going forward and IF they need to expand B12 or work for an 8 team playoff ( easiest way for all to make more money ). Sterk has the resume he has given to B12 and adjusts it yearly . Would also guess he will chat with WVU AD at the Vegas MBB Tournament and Kansas group when they come here . Doesn't matter what or how many articles a school writes , unless B12 decides to expand it will do it on their terms and what is important to them .

I don't deny that, I'm just saying that based on their attendance Cincinnati doesn't have a ton of support from the community. If a conference is thinking short term survival (which the Big 12 very well may be) than Cincinnati is a fine short term solution. I don't think its a good long term add though. Its not only a smaller market than others available but that market is already dominated by Ohio State. Its also growing at a snails pace compared to other major metros. Here's a population growth comparison with SD. Cincinnati Metro Population in 1950 census: 1,270,310 San Diego Metro Population in 1950 census: 556,808 Cincinnati Metro Population in 1980 census: 1,788,404 San Diego Metro Population in 1980 census: 1,861,846 Cincinnati Metro Population in 2010 census: 2,172,191 San Diego Metro Population in 2010 census: 3,095,313

They are in a big market similar to us, have a med school, lot of C7 exit money for another 3 or 4 years to pay coaches and have done well in their sports. The biggest boost is their location, which is close to WVa. So I'd say they're a lock to be Big 12 member #11. I think they'll stay west for #12, but not an MWC school nor BYU. Most likely Houston despite what non-Texas members say. JMO

If they only go 2 more schools, it'll be Cincy and Memphis. Makes too much sense for them not to. If they go 14, we might stand a chance, but they may just go to USF and UCF to make 14. I think that'd be a mistake, but who knows what they'll do. We need the ACC to take UWV, then B12 expansion could come West.

Oliver Luck must have had some political connections to get them into the Big 12 instead of Louisville. Unfortunately they have no other place to go so that put the Big 12 in a bind.

Sterk will get an opportunity to chat with the WVU and Kansas AD's when MBB teams play or meet .

Sterk will get an opportunity to chat with the WVU and Kansas AD's when MBB teams play or meet . If SDSU can convince the Big 12 the real selling point is TV sets, hence increased revenue. From what we are hearing SDSU is saying Big 12 is looking both east and west to add schools from both for balance.

The ISU President was saying he wants to add teams that ISU can beat . Would agree most important are teams that provide more revenue . Would guess Sterk can get decent opinions when he chats with B12 AD's . Bottom line for B12,focus now is getting teams in the Playoffs a lot more then expansion .

The ISU President was saying he wants to add teams that ISU can beat . As if he has any clout. Iowa State is to the B12 as Washington State is to the Pac.

First, Texas isn't giving up the LHN. But even if they did and it rolled into a Big 12 Network, the schools don't own the inventory to even get it off the ground. They sold almost all their inventory to ESPN and Fox (61 football games and 105 basketball games). So they'd have to buy back some inventory from ESPN and Fox (if they were amenable to it in the first place), then they'd have to hit up their existing Tier 3 deals and buy those back.
Boren knew this when he spoke last month. It was never about a Big 12 Network.
And to go back to what we were saying a while back, nothing is going to happen unless Texas wants it to happen -- and they don't.
You guys would be much better served hoping the PAC changes its mind than the looking towards the Big 12.

The name of the game is getting teams in the playoffs and then winning the championship for all the P5 Conferences , not expansion . SEC was the power , then FSU gave ACC some football life , then BIG . Most AD's are much more concerned about that then expansion . That is the focus point for B12 for 2015 .Does adding teams mean they will improve the play of current schools in the B12 -NO. Same for PAC , where SDSU has zero chance of being elevated to a P5 school and be considered a challenge to other PAC schools . No way do they want to lose any 4 or 5 star recruits to SDSU . Current schools want their team to get into the mix for the playoffs , more then anything else .
