Per SDUT Sports: "De’Anthony Melton (6-3, Crespi High in Encino): A 3-star prospect whose stock is rising, he is one of several guards tied to the Aztecs. The list also includes Mission Bay High's Justin Moore; Jordan Ford from Folsom High in the Sacramento area; and Canadian Marquell Fraser, who is from Narain’s hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, and plays on the same AAU team." according to the LA Times, Crespi junior De'Anthony Melton has an offer from USC. The 6-foot-4 Melton helped Crespi win the state Division IV championship and is #7 in the state of CA on ESPN rankings. Melton is a 4-star ESPN prospect. He averaged 15.5 points and 9.2 rebounds during his Jr year. www.verbalcommits.com/players/de-anthony-meltonespn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/evaluation/_/id/172197/deanthony-melton

Per Devin Ugland Twitter: #SDSU has two coaches watching Cal Supreme and SDA right now. Likely for 2016 De’Anthony Melton and 2017 Richard Polanco.

According to Melton's AAU team website, California Supreme, he has an Aztec offer along with team mates, Jonah Matthews and Brandon McCoy. See the link below: californiasupremebasketball.com/elite-17u/And Verbal Commits tweeted out, "Colorado State, Loyola Marymount, and Nevada offered 2016 Crespi Carmelite (CA) G De'Anthony Melton. @deanthonymelton"

This feels like a no brainer. One of the West Coast's top defenders and continued to prove that reputation last week at the Double Pump Best of Summer tournament. Plays D like an Aztec, has hops and ability to get to the rim.

Scouts current summary on Melton:
The bottom line is that there aren’t many defenders nationally as good as Melton. The shooting guard takes pride in his ability to lock up the opposing player’s best scorer and not only does he consistently do the job but he creates several buckets for his own team in the process by creating turnovers. Melton is also a very good passer who thrives at getting to the basket in transition. USC and LMU have offered, with Boise State and San Diego State showing interest.

Good news today from Scout.com, top defensive guard lists SDSU #1 so far. He still has a trip to USC and Tony Bland has had eyes on him for a while, he averaged 16 & 9 at 6'4" at Crespi HS in LA.
"....One of the nation's top defensive guards in the 2016 class has set up a few official visits and has a leader.
De'Anthony Melton, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound shooting guard from Encino (Calif.) Crespi has set up official visits for USC on Sept. 11, San Diego State on Sept. 18 and Colorado State on Oct. 10. The leader heading into those visits?
"Probably San Diego State," Melton said. "I like the coaching staff. I've talked to all of them and I like the way they play. I think the way they play fits me."
"I'm looking for somewhere I can have fun, where everybody is happy with where they are and the coaches have a good relationship with the players," Melton said. "I want a good crowd there too." Your not gonna get a good crowd at USC.

In the scout.com article link above he lists the Aztecs as leading right now and then goes on to describe what he is looking for, "I'm looking for somewhere I can have fun, where everybody is happy with where they are and the coaches have a good relationship with the players," Melton said. "I want a good crowd there too." That sure sounds like SDSU.

I really like our chances with this kid & Cage. This weekend with Mathews/McD should be very interesting as well, and allow the staff to figure out priorities a little bit better.
Crazy time of year...

I don't see why not unless Mathews commits to SDSU first. I am sure we wouldn't take both.

Melton's #1 choice is SDSU. Matthews is considering USC, Us an the Zags. HE also has offers from CAL, Utah and ASU. One key thing to note is USC only has 1 scholarship left right now for 2016, including MJ Cage, Vance Jackson, Stanback, Matthews and Moore.
I believe De'Anthony will be an Aztec, his visit is 9/18.
