I'm guessing Nichols is basically going to have his choice of elite programs to pick from, he's a very talented and experienced guy. Given that I don't think he ever showed interest in West Coast teams, I would guess we're a longgggggggg shot at best.

Fighting Irish and Marquette have already started making contact . As noted would guess others will also , AAC Conference. and SEC. Very surprised Memphis did not add them to the no transfer list . Would guess best shot Aztecs have is through the parents , the way we signed Davis . We do have PT , Malik , Shepard , Chol , Spencer all leave after the 15-16 season . Only returning players at PF/C could be Zylan . Plus Narain .

The conditions for the release, according to the local paper Commercial Appeal, includes anyone in the AAC, any Memphis non-conference opponent in 2015-16 and Tennessee, Iowa, Providence and Virginia. Iowa, Providence and Virginia all play in a tournament with Memphis in the 2016-17 season, while Tennessee is … Tennessee. Memphis’ non-conference schedule for 2015-16 includes Oklahoma, South Carolina, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss and Ohio State. That's alot of place he can not go. However, the Aztecs would love to have the 5-star 6'9" 225 PF. Believe I saw Notre Dame & Auburn had already reached out to Memphis before, and I'm sure they'll do so again now that the release has been granted. Could end up at a Duke, UNC, even Kansas type of schools as well.
Amazing to me how many programs still have open scholarships; wouldn't have seen that 4-5 years ago.
Agree with those saying he'll most likely end up near home.

Every scholarship you have is valuable and why you need to make sure you use them wisely . Most quality programs do not fill up to the 13 limit unless they add players with potential to become starters . Same thing now for 2016 , would hope we only add players that we think have that potential . Things have changed dramatically in the last few years and could be the need to maybe go with 11 or 12 guys on scholarship for 2016 to start the fall of 2015 , with transfers and who knows what happening .

Nichols becomes the fourth Memphis player in their 2013 recruiting class to transfer, following Nick King (Alabama), Pookie Powell (La Salle) and Kuran Iverson (Rhode Island), WTF is going on in Memphis?

I really don't think SDSU is in the mix for him but I wouldn't rule it out completely as they do have something most big-time schools don't have right now - and that is an available scholarship.

Can Memphis block all transfers ? Force court case ? or what kind of limits can they put on him ? If Jones got an offer there and we can block him this puts SDSU in a very unique position to do a 1-for-1 trade in a sense. Nichols has to want to come to beautiful San Diego and some people just don't get that growing up in the South.

Now that he can go any where and most likely Virginia , doubt he even asks about SDSU visit . So on to 2016, the next two weekends of AAU events, or possibly Andre Adams .

Stan did you see that ESPN 5-star guard Montaque Gill-Caesar, a top-50 recruit coming out of high school is seeking a transfer from Mizzou.
The 6-foot-6, 215-pound Canadian averaged 9.1 points and 3.0 rebounds as a freshman last season while battling a back injury, and missed the first three SEC contests. He averaged 12.6 points before the injury and 6.9 rebs after he returned. Not sure if you want to start another thread, but this one is worth watching. Perfect size for the Aztec system.
He was highly recruited by Big 10 and SEC schools, and is from Vaughan, Canada, outside of Toronto. I assume many schools will make a run on him.

Off topic, but I think Dakari has a real shot to play minutes at the 4 after the bigs leave this next year.
He is so long and athletic he could be a real nice player at the 4 for some uptempo minutes.

M. G. Caesar could be a great add on for the Aztecs. Believe he played on a good CIA Bounce AAU team, plus Canadian National team .
D. Allen , should be the first reserve at SF ( unless they put Shrigley in there for shooting ,if Malik is off ) or the lock down defender on the other team's best guard or SF ,this year . Also has added value if we use 1-3-1 D . If the Aztecs also try to push the ball more ,with guys attacking the basket his value also increases .

Transferring Memphis forward Austin Nichols will visit Virginia this weekend and is likely to wind up there, according to a report from CBSSports.com. The report says Nichols — who was recently granted a release — may also visit Kansas. Nichols averaged 13.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this past season.
