I believe The Administration/ University at large including Athletics have made good progress the last decade. It is time that we need great success in Football. I for one am not going to judge Admin/ Sterk's ability to build a new Aztec Football Stadium until we find out that it is needed (i.e. if The Chargers pull out). If and when that happens I will expect a lot and do what I can to help.

From Union Jack: "I am disappointed to learn no one is currently playing in the Rubber Bowl. I have always wanted the two USC’s to meet in a early season kickoff game. The promotion of it would have been epic. Cocks vs. Trojans – Rubber Bowl. Coming in Akron 2015." Trojans cover. Easily Cocks have a breakout win......could make a run for the Championship!

Successful Campaign, new engineering building, Storm and Nassitar, South Campus Plaza, BB Practice Facility, Softball Clubhouse. I don't know, seems the leaders have been doing pretty well. A SDSU West campus would be a phenomenal undertaking for absolutely anyone. But if you can't see that there have been good things happening, that can and should be credited to our leaders, then either you have near improbable standards, or you have not been paying attention. Heck, in the last decade the reputation, performance, and student profile have 180'd. Again, attributable to leadership that some seem to say is lackluster. Don't forget the Aztec Student Union and Love Library renovations; Tennis complex, Aquaplex... The list goes on... Tony Gwynn Stadium

I for one am not going to judge Admin/ Sterk's ability to build a new Aztec Football Stadium until we find out that it is needed (i.e. if The Chargers pull out). If and when that happens I will expect a lot and do what I can to help. If the Chargers are successful in extorting a billion or so dollars from local government, leading to a new NFL caliber stadium in Mission Valley, SDSU will be up against it. At that point, the school either caves and agrees to pay the much higher rental fees required to play in a stadium that is much too big and which WILL NOT have any Aztec specific features, or it will declare that a campaign to raise funds for an on-campus stadium will be undertaken immediately. If the former is the decision, the Aztec football program will be, in my view, in jeopardy. Unless SDSU begins winning 11, 12, or more games a year and draws crowds of 50,000 or more on a regular basis, the move to a new "Chargers" stadium might well usher in the beginning of the end for football. Declaring that SDSU can only succeed with its own stadium would take a lot of guts on the part of the university's president and AD, but I think that would be the way to go. As I and some others have pointed out, the loss of Aztec Bowl was based on the assumption, whether realized or not, that the Aztecs and the Chargers would forever be joined at the hip, with no thought given to whether that relationship would always be to the benefit of SDSU football. This is why I hope the Chargers leave San Diego. It would begin an era of real challenges, sure, but eventually, better to be faced with challenges than to realize that what we've seen if pretty much what we will always see. If you don't believe that, ask yourself whether the Aztecs hoops program would be better or worse off if it had to play in a new, very high rent NBA area in the Sports Arena area. Does anyone really think that having to play down on Midway would be better than, or even as advantageous, as playing in Viejas Arena? The question answers itself. AzWm

But Weber began the transformation, that is for sure. It's hilarious to watch people bash the last two President's, when they have done so much to make us a national research university.

How many times will you be corrected about this before you stop posting it again and again? I suggest you check your facts. And in either case my point remains: it was a struggle. Here you go! I hope it helps!

Whether they like it or not, athletics is also part of their job responsibility as a president. Is it asking too much for supremacy in that department, as well?

<P>But then, the Boostrap, EM, PCA, were all invented by statisticians, and PAC theory is Portafoglio Louis Vuitton Uomo a ML cornerstone and plenty of papers on this subject are published in stats journals. So that more of a generic attitude than a clear differentiation. You seem to be confusing "can do" spirit with reality. SDSU has shown zero leadership for that which you are irrationally hanging onto hope. Successful Campaign, new engineering building, Storm and Nassitar, South Campus Plaza, BB Practice Facility, Softball Clubhouse. I don't know, seems the leaders have been doing pretty well. And please explain how any of that relates to the stadium cost/problem to which my comment referred? It does however, magnify the utter lack of enthusiasm show by our pretenders, for the football program, yes?

And not to speak for others, but I think he addressed your "can do" spirit dig with a hammer to a nail. We DO have a can-do spirit at SDSU as evidenced by the examples given (I'd also throw in the College of Arts and Letters building among others). I don't see why it couldn't be applied to a new stadium.

How 'bout this? How 'bout there is no "can do" spirit when it comes to football? Some former players including the Hammetts have been trying to change that but despite a couple hundred thousand alumni within a day's drive of campus and a bunch of extremely wealthy alumni, nobody has stepped up to try to get together the seed money needed to start a stadium drive despite that time is of the essence.
Who's to blame? Maybe all of us to varying degrees. However, off the top of my head, if we had a HC like Coryell or Hoke - heck, even Lugie - I'll bet he would be creating some smoke to start a fire.

How 'bout this? How 'bout there is no "can do" spirit when it comes to football? I think when confronted with a worse-case scenario, a lower level of football affiliated with G5 membership, or even WORSE- no football, a "can-do" groundswell with regards to football could be formulated at SDSU. No question in my mind. Just need a SOLID and CONTINUED commitment for donors, alumni, and fans. I do agree that time is "of the essence"

Me in 1990...
- We shouldn't build a basketball practice facility in this spot. I like these two old reduced-size outdoor courts that have no nets most of the time. One day we'll play a game on the deck of a ship, and you'll thank me for saving these old courts cause we're gonna shell some big-time east coast program. And we don't have enough room or funds for this anyway.
- We shouldn't build an on-campus basketball arena, because I think we've reached our ceiling with the Michael Cage era -- and we need to play in NBA digs -- even former NBA digs -- to recruit that kind of talent. And we don't have enough room or funds for this anyway.
- We shouldn't replace Storm Hall. I think The Crucible of taking your final exams in a building that reaches 102 in mid-May creates the kind of battle-hardened graduates that attract the mid-range caliber of student that SDSU demands. And we don't have enough room or funds for this anyway.
- We shouldn't build a new Student Union. My Monty's Den beer tastes better with trace amounts of asbestos. And we don't have enough room or funds for this anyway.
- Non-air conditioned dorms are part of the student experience -- especially the first week in September. And we don't have enough room or funds for new dorms anyway.
- Love Library is a monument to 1971 architecture -- and we don't have enough room or funds to expand it anyway.
- 2 parking structures are plenty, and we don't have enough funds anyway.
- A trolley stop? Here? Where? You tell me where? You find me some room, smart guy!
- An Aqua-what? And, I'm sorry, but that softball complex idea is just dumb -- and we don't have any room.
- New administrative building? Well, OK -- but only because it'll cut down on those ridiculous lines to pay fees, etc.
Now let's go get some Square Pan Pizza. It's really delicious and I'm predicting franchises will sweep across the USA...

I would not disagree that there is apathy from our alumni towards the football team. Utter lack of enthusiasm? Ehhhhh, yes and no. Yes, in that it is hard to be enthusiastic with a mediocre atmosphere, and a team that can't win the games that can help to change the image. No, as in our tickets sold is some of the best in G5, and even BITS is not on the backside of the bell curve. Also, there was plenty of enthusiasm in 2011, with 3 games over 40k, and 2 over 50k. Even the Wazzu game, which had skyshow, was a great atmosphere, with a packed student section, and a loud fanbase inside the stadium, it wasn't just the fireworks. When faced with a major decision, I think instead of regurgitating the rhetoric of our fanbase won't do squat, and our leaders suck, you should instead be a motivator of troops. If you want to sit out in the outfield like those two Indian fans dogging their team in Major League, then jumping on the stick when everyone else's work actually pays off, can't you do it in silence?[/quote]

THE decisions must be made by the three men who have found mediocrity, and love it. Sterk, Hirshman and Rocky Retread are the reason for our malaise and it's not going to change until THEY change, or are given new lives somewhere else. They are supposed to do the "rallying", the pushing and drum beat, NOT miscellaneous fans. THAT is what leadership is all about. The leading programs in the country didn't get there by having some poor schlub beat a Tom-Tom at a self-initiated pep rally.

That's interesting because my conversations w/ the Hammetts show their belief that a new SDSU stadium has the money already earmarked coming from various sources. I've heard this from a couple people but I have my serious doubts. Show me.

It's hilarious to watch people bash the last two President's, when they have done so much to make us a national research university. At the risk of saying something positive about President Day, it was on his watch that the funding for the on campus arena was launched via increased student fees. This student fee increase was supported by AS Council and ultimately voted on and passed by the student body.
