www.mwcconnection.com/2015-nba-draft/2015/6/30/8866837/j-j-obrien-invited-to-utah-jazz-camp-for-the-summerArticle gives some great gritty San Diego State praise for JJ's fundamental skills. NBA Summer league is $9.99 for early sign up and you'll get to see Jamaal and X in Vegas July 4-10 and JJ in Salt Lake City July 6-9 and probably Josh Davis (unless he is still not healed from shoulder injury) and maybe Polee. Quinn is probably signed up overseas and headed that way. JJ will play the Spurs on the 7th Minus Kawhi of course Kawhi will be alot richer by then

He may not be tremendously athletic but he is athletic enough coupled with the the intangibles that may equal an NBA Roster.

Finishes playing 5 minutes 1 pt, 1 reb and needs to be more aggressive on the offensive end. He doesn't look real comfortable playing SF and on the wing.

Why are our players just screen and pass players in these summer league games...? smh X shoots every blue moon but spends most of the time standing on the opposite side of wherever the ball is. I have no clue what the heck JJ is doing out there. Its like they told him don't dribble, don't shoot, only pass and set screens on offense. Please act like you want to make a team... X went from starting to 3rd pg in the rotation. I know JF will be aggressive and I hope AQ will do the same.
Please forgive my frustrations... I just know these guys can do more than what they are showing.

Nice stat line for JJ tonight 17 minutes, 7 pts, 5 boards, 1 assist +8 when he was playing. No Trey Lyles, Dante Exum or Jarrett tonight. He got early PT tonight and looked more fluid. However, he needs to be a little more selfish on O.

However, he needs to be a little more selfish on O. His +8 was the 2nd best on the team. That's the stat that will get him into camp. Not too worried about the rest. He simply makes good decisions on the floor. Always has.

I just know these guys can do more than what they are showing. I felt the same way watching X and JJ play in their first games. Too unselfish for Summer League play to showcase their talents. JJ was a lot more aggressive in his second game against the Spurs so he's figuring out the speed of the game and playing the wing position. He'll get more PT on Thursday and continue to make smart decisions on the floor. As for X, I fear he's having a hard time adjusting to quicker guards at the next level. He had trouble playing against athletic guards in his last collegiate season. Hope he bounces back on Thursday.

The nature of Summer League games may be the EXACT opposite of the ball taught at State...
The fact that a fifth year walkon, a transfer backup PG and a "glue guy" that routinely got trashed by his own fanbase are getting looks from NBA teams is a testament to our program. The fact that these same guys continue to be the consummate team players in a system set up similar to AAU all star games is also a testament to the type of character and team building that's made SDSU what it is today... The downside is that winning college ball is infinitely different than winning pro ball, and the Aztecs that make a good transition have been able to mature their game beyond the atmosphere here and adjust to surroundings.
I think unfortunately the above comments are true- to stand out in walk on situations you have to have a different mindset, unless you get in a system that can spot the differences well. You think Joe Johnson is worried about doing the little things? Sad fact about the NBA but it is what it is. No doubt if our guys are given a shot they could perform admirably, but for everyone's sake I hope they are able to push their on court demeanor past what it was here, aggressive-wise, and show the coaches a glimmer.

Lol you better watch that game and not just look at the stat line. Yeah he had 7 points but only one of the points came from him actually being aggressive with the ball. His three point shot came because he had no choice but to shoot it because there was only three seconds left when he got the ball and you could hear just about everyone in the gym yelling shoot the ball.

I am pretty sure that X could do exactly what he did his senior year in summer league. He usually shows flashes of it when he decides to be aggressive. X is pretty good when he is aggressive off the pick and roll. Some of our players are too unselfish. Idk about JJ figuring out the speed or game right now. I think Utah needs to figure out that JJ can make a few plays with the ball in his hands not stuck on the wing. I could see him doing everything i saw Kyle Anderson doing last night.

I watched the game last night and his three pointer put Utah ahead for the win. He played well in the 4th quarter made a couple of nice moves to the hoop and grabbed a handful of boards. Summer league is the most selfish type of ball, but i think he gained some respect last night. When Trey Lyles and Dante Exum return his minutes will decline. We're rooting for him either way.

Yes the three did put them ahead but my favorite thing that i saw from him was the drive to the basket layup. It was his most aggressive move and was quick and decisive. I hope he can build on this.

Dante Exum may provide that.

Exum is only 19. No glue there. JJ is 23 and has all the fundamentals of the game down. Maybe not major glue but solid.
