I hate to say it but Martinez is a slightly better coach than Gwynn, and I LOVED Tony. I just think he would not have risked that steal. I hope you're wrong. I love TG, but as far as I'm concerned, Martinez has the potential to do the things TG couldn't. I'll say it again, there's no reason this program shouldn't be on the same level as more prominent California programs, and eventually national. If tonight is an indication of just what might be possible down the road, regardless of what happens the rest of this series, I can only feel optimism for the future of Aztec baseball. Now just bring back the 5K in January! (My reward for putting family before Aztec baseball is I'll be attending the Red Sox-Ranger's game Saturday night. But my wife, with her smart phone, will be keeping me posted on the "important" game(s).

That was a great game, plenty of Aztecs in the house! For those of you that kept the updates thanks -- I was able to sit back and just enjoy the game. For those of you that didn't make it ... next game is tomorrow night at 7PM vs. Virginia -- come on out and support our Aztecs. As the lower seed we should once again be in the visitors dugout so sections 109, 111 are the ones behind it. Tickets aren't expensive and the traffic on Saturday should be easy. See you there!

Tomorrow should be fun. Waddell will be pitching for the Cavs and he has a 4.52 era and is only 3-5. His last game a week go against Notre Dame in only 6 innings he gave up 7 hits and 5 walks. His start before that while he had 7 innings of shut out ball and got the win he allowed 7 hits and 4 walks The start before that he gave up 10 hits in a no decision. I think we will get on base and with some TGwynn we score a bunch.

You have some serious momentum from winning the MW Tournament and upsetting a nationally ranked opponent in your first NCAA tournament game. Don't blow it.

The announcers called this an upset, and it was in terms of the regional seeds, but the Aztecs were clearly better offensively coming in. UCSB had the pitching edge at the top of the rotation, but good teams find a way to win. And the Aztecs are just that, a good team. Good luck against the Trojans.

Wow! Love that call, serious guts. Played to perfection. The timing the base runner had was on the money. I wonder why the pitcher was not in the stretch, but pitching with full windup. That extra time was the difference. I wonder if coach noticed that and made the judgement call?

Such a smart call in that the batter had 2 strikes (and there were 2 outs) having him run made the pitcher have to 'throw' the ball instead of say, 'pitching' strike 3. He threw it high and SDSU won.

You mean Virginia, they beat the Trojans (6-1), and now we play them. UCSB has to play U$C. Virginia will not be any easier because they have talent also, but should be a good game.

Check out the steal on @ncaacws's Tweet: The video is embedded on the Twitter link. I keep watching that over and over, and to me it still looks like the catcher got the tag on him before he touched home. But, we cannot see a clear image of home plate, so there is no proof showing that he tagged first. The Ump, I am assuming saw the play clearly, and called it correctly. Just wish they had another angle to show it better, but it was the Play Of The Game and won it for our Aztecs!!!!!

Gaucho is a Santa Barbara fan. No fooling? That is why he has gaucho in his name. I still thought he was referring to the Aztecs, but no big deal.

Be thankful, if you're going up today, that it's not a Friday night game. Traffic was an absolute bitch Left at 4;30, arrived at the game 15 minutes before game time.. Two hours to get there. Bumper to bumper traffic started about the Pala/Oceanside turnoff and never got over 20 mph until we reached the Border Patrol Check Station. Thankfully, it was a helluva game.

over/under for the steal at home in SC top 10 is 5.5 Came in at #6, congrats to everyone who took the over! I watched for over an hour SC, and still missed it. But of course, the game ended at 10 PT, or after and that means it was 1AM on the east coast. And ESPN was probably asleep as usual and I thought they really missed it. But, putting it at No. 6 is asinine! It most soitenly should have been NO. 1! All the other plays were catches that you see quite regularly in baseball all the time, or Hockey plays that were not really too unusual. But, how many times do you see a player steal home, and it helps you win the game?!!!!
