I was at that game. We kicked the snot out of them. That 1996 Aztec team is the best I've seen. Billy Blanton, George Jones, Az Hakim, Will Blackwell and Leandrew Childs on offense. Eric Lewis, Rico Curtis and Ricky Parker on defense. Still can't believe we lost to UNLV. That 1996 Oklahoma team was probably the worst in the past 40 years, although the 1997 team sucked too. Don't forget the stud offensive line with Turley, Salaam, and Malano. That team arguably had the most talent of any Aztec football team. Yet they still found a way to lose to UNLV. They shouldn't have lost any games. I forget, but anyone remember why they had to play Air Force on Thanksgiving?

We played on Thanksgiving because the Padres won the pennant, giving them priority over The Murph, which didn't become The Q until the following year. BTW, in 1997 Qualcomm paid $18M for the perpetual naming rights with no ongoing payments. That deal is generally recognized as one of the biggest steals in sports history. The City of San Diego got fleeced. To put it in perspective, Reliant Energy pays $10M per year for the naming rights in Houston. Levi's pays 11M per year in San Francisco. UofPhoenix pays $7M per year in Arizona.

I also remember going to a game against Hawaii on a Friday night. No doubt another Padres scheduling issue.
