The city of Oakland is almost near bankruptcy as business and people have fled for suburbia and other locales.
Oakland is much closer to Stockton or Detroit than us

Golden State Warriors are the hot ticket in NBA- they play fall through spring , so through NFL season , also Raiders have not been relevant in way too many years for most fans . Have not been in the playoffs in the longest time. 49'ers will still be there in a new facility .for NFL fans. Raiders could still opt to play in the 49'ers facility in Santa Clara , would be tenant as they will be in LA Rams. If not their owner could take the deal from Carson , St Louis, Texas or even from San Diego . How would San Diego like to , lose Chargers get the Raiders. Davis will make money some where just depends on how much from what area. That is the family business .

The following quote from the piece nicely summarizes why big cities should not be spending money on privately held businesses such as NFL franchises. . .
If there were some extra revenue in Alameda County, Carson said it could fund desperately needed health care and social services for the county, particularly at a time when hospitals are closing down.

Unlike the south, Texas is a state that has a passion for both college and professional football. And I could still attend a Charger game and Sea World..

AzWm I'm visibly touched by your compassion for the common man, but not having an NFL team wouldn't mean the city would start helping the needy. And to keep it in perspective, if the Chargers had the same success as the Patriots we'd be having a different conversation.

I think I'd be looking strongly at OK City...outside of Texas...but with an increasingpopulation (plus throw in Tulsa and you get nearly 1M people)..with people who are football crazy

Major draw for many professional athletes in Texas ,is no state income tax . They pick up a lot of free agents that way .
I do not know where a majority of the permanent staff or players who play on the Raiders live or pay taxes, spend their money during the football season . Understand some live in counties outside of the immediate Oakland area. Do know the majority of the people who work for the Chargers full time,a wide variety of staff / coaches / players and even numerous retired athletes pay a good amount of taxes to San Diego County .That could be a lot of lost income for the city/county if staff/players leave San Diego .
The Golden State Warriors , who play in Oakland , have picked up a lot of support among the people of Oakland lately . Other then die hard Raider fans not sure most would have a problem adjusting to 49'ers . if they want to go to a live NFL game .

The city of Oakland is almost near bankruptcy as business and people have fled for suburbia and other locales. Oakland is much closer to Stockton or Detroit than us Inaccurate. First of all, in case you haven't noticed, the fact the city of Detroit is in bad shape sure didn't stop it from building a state of the art baseball stadium nor is there anything wrong with Ford Field where the Lions play. As to Oakland, businesses aren't leaving. As an example, my friend's company is about to move from San Francisco across the Bay to Oakland because rents in SF are astronomical. For the same reason the price of housing has been increasing. However, Oakland's biggest problems have been mismanagement of the city and the school district, which for decades has been one of the worst in the state, and a terrible crime rate in the eastern half of the city. City government is therefore ill equipped to do anything at all to help build a stadium. Whether Alameda County can offer any assistance remains to be seen.

If the Warriors win the NBA championship, all the speculation about a new arena being built in San Francisco to house them will come to fruition.

They would go where they currently go... the Marine Mammal Center. And before you ask, yes I am an annual donor there.

They would go where they currently go... the Marine Mammal Center. And before you ask, yes I am an annual donor there. SD Zoo needs to go asap then also. if you don't understand the difference between natural environmental displays at the SD Zoo and the animal acts at Sea World ... then there's really no hope for you. It's not like the elephants and tigers at the zoo are performing 3 shows a day and when not performing they are kept in cages like what is being done at the Sea World amusement park. Now if Sea World were to follow up on their commitment to introduce much larger environmentally similar displays to what the SD Zoo does for their animals and cut down on the performance art that would be different, but then would Sea World be profitable as more of an aquatic zoo and amusement park since their business model is built on animal performances like a stationary circus?

Yes, Natural environment displays. I'm sure the lions there love their natural environment displays. And maybe try not being such an a-hole with the "no hope for you" spew.

I call it like I see it ... if the SD Zoo were forcing the lions to jump through hoops and dance on their hind legs I am sure there would be just as much outrage regarding the zoo. If the trees, grass and other natural affectations of the lions' spacious African Savannah habitat were reduced to it's old 20' x 40' steel cage there would be issues there too. Sea World is about 20 years behind the Zoo in regards to the treatment of their animals. Further to the point, the SD Zoo created the Safari Park to swap out the animals in the Zoo displays to give the animals even more space more often and to give them a change of scenery giving them the perception of expanded territory. I would like to see if Sea World would do even half as much for their animals. There is an argument against keeping any animal in any zoo or aquarium -- but Sea World has put the welfare of their animals so far below their profit motive that even the circus is looking better by comparison. To try and equate the welfare of the animals in the care of the non-profit San Diego Zoological Society and those in the care of the for-profit Anheuser-Busch Sea World Amusement Park is ridiculous.
