Why does everyone continue think the future of Aztec football is tied to the Chargers?
Well, a stadium constructed with the Chargers as its primary tenants is still on the table. A stadium constructed with San Diego State as its primary tenant is a pipe dream.
(You know anybody with a coupla hundred million they want to pony up for a stadium and purchase the land it's built on? I mean, in San Diego).
Oh wait, how about this....
urbanland.uli.org/planning-design/civita-san-diego-s-new-city-within-the-city/
Chargers gone, Q gone. And they'll be a comin'..
relocating, they'd be better off in San Antonio, Carson is a dead zone for Chargers as Anaheim was for the Rams.
That said, all this money that's floating around within this initial proposal will, obviously, not materialize if this final proposal falls through. So let's look at this realistically. Part of the proposal includes
the possibility that some of the land sold for development could be used for a State "annex", (yeah, that's it, more of a bone than anything, but, hey, the high road).
No proposal, no money. All these city honks that are thumping their chests that they chased the Chargers away will be looking at a stadium in dire need of massive upgrades, only one viable tenant, incapable of generating
a significant source of revenue and a lotta land that's REALLY valuable. This is San Diego. So what say the anti-Bolt honks next? Are they going to pay for stadium upgrades? Are they going to support a State "annex"?, a
new stadium? Are they going to sell the land to developers?
Keep thumping your "NFL burn in HELL" chests as you try and chase away those bad ole Chagas....Once they leave, it will create a whole new set of issues for the city and new logistical problems for State. But I'm sure
my alma mater has butt loads of heavy hitters itching to pony up millions and millions to get just their name on a building. Of course, talk is cheap.
Personally, as sad as I would be for yet another professional team to leave San Diego, the blow would be considerably softened if they did end up in SA, Texas. I like it down there. They take their football seriously.
If you're gonna watch football, do it in Texas.
In San Diego? Just may be, the "go away Charger" honks can enjoy the yearly match up between USD and State at Torero Stadium, San Diego State's new home..
Now there I go again, I really wanted to take the high road regarding this toxic topic. I'll say this. The city of San Diego will get exactly what it deserves. As history shows, has always been the case.
