www.voiceofsandiego.org/topics/land-use/the-chargers-stadium-plan-would-cost-taxpayers-almost-1-billion/"The task force recommends the Chargers be responsible for all cost overruns on stadium construction and the team has made no indication that it will accept that. Indeed, many of the initial reactions to the task force’s plan include worry that it isn’t generous enough to the team. So putting all the taxpayer dollars together, we’re talking potentially a public investment of between $881 million and $997 million in a new stadium." This number is more than likely going to go up for the taxpayers during negotiations. Assuming a deal is even agreed upon by the city/county & Chargers it would then go to a vote. Does anyone really think the taxpayers are going to approve $1 Billion in public funding/resources to build a stadium that will not provide any significant revenue for the city? And to top it all off; SDSU will have to pay $1.25 million per year to rent the facility. Over 30 years that is almost $40 million in payments (not including any interest you could earn on it) from SDSU. Seems to me SDSU would be better off spending $40 million towards their own SDSU controlled stadium.

I anxiously await Fabiani's letter to the Mayor and CSAG ripping the proposal to shreds.

The "Voice" is full of $#!+! It's more than obvious that they have NO desire to have the Chargers here. I'd like to see the author of that article go head to head w/ Adam Day.

I understand that it would cost much more than $40 million. However, IMO, SDSU would be better off putting that money towards financing their own stadium rather the high cost of rent. I also would like to see VOSD go head to head with Adam Day.

We would also finally have access to revenue streams generated by our own stadium which we don't currently get and may not get in the new stadium either.

Funny how both sides are saying it's going to cost them too much.
Pro-NFL people are saying this deal will never fly because it's going to cost the Chargers nearly a billion in this deal. Of course, it all depends on how people view the sources of money. Whether they consider it contributions from the City or the Chargers.

I'd rather see him go head to head with Jim Steeg. In any event, it's very difficult to take VoSD seriously since they have such an obvious agenda. They might as well call themselves "fair and balanced" news.

It comes down to what one wants to believe. Talk is cheap so I'd be interested in knowing who would actually pony up millions to build a stadium for a football program the caliber of San Diego State, (of which I am a proud alumnus). And where would one put it?? No doubt developers would love to get their hands on the carcass of the Q.. some serious possibilities.

an extra $40million over 30 years to have a state of the art PRO stadium for SDSU is a great deal. If anyone thinks that the chargers leaving is good for SDSU foot ball, I think they are wrong.

Well its been so good for us so far right? Like all the revenue we get to collect from parking and concessions at our football games? Oh wait...

I have never put much stock in what that rag says, I have never found them to be objective in any way on any topic. I would love it if we had one source here in SD that was objective but like most television "NEWS" outlets, everyone always has their own agenda.

We just need the rams to get their Inglewood stadium going. Then the joint SD/OAK stadium is f'd and the chargers are also.

So let me get this right, according to reports:
The taxpayers are going to pay almost $1B (according to this article)
The Chargers are going to pay almost $1B (according to team sources)
So we now have a $2B stadium?
Hmmmm…

My best guess is still the Rams to Inglewood and the Chargers to stay in SD (2 teams in SoCal) with the only question being the Raiders. I still think the Raiders stay in the Bay area somewhere. Inglewood looks as close to a done deal as your going to get and a MUCH better solution for the NFL by far vs. Carson. And for those who think Kranky is going to share a stadium HE built with another team, I have some land to sell you...

BTW, I didn't see the line item in the plan for the $500M in fill dirt Fabiani said the site would need.

Hmmmm… In effect yes ... the CSAG specifically left out infrastructure improvements as well as other stadium maintenance costs in their proposal ... everything in their plan relates only to construction of the stadium & parking structure.
