YES. 8 points on average should be do-able If his free throw rate improves considerably (60%+), I could see him getting more than 8 points a game. He has been very reluctant to work inside for fear of being fouled and opponents have hacked him rather than allowing a clean look. With a new confidence that a better free throw rate produces and opponents not willing to foul so readily, he could use his quick moves inside to produce good scoring opportunities. When not fouled, his back to the basket moves have been decent. He has a nice move to the middle from the left side and finish from 5 feet. If he adds spin move to the left to lay it off the glass and practices passing out of any double team, he could be a weapon on offense. Having a PG who can penetrate and dish would add a few more points. The key is being efficient. 8 points shooting 4-6 is a huge plus but if if is 4-10, not so much. I would like to see his averages: Per 40 minutesFG 4.3-6.8 FT 3.4-5.3 3P 0.0-0.0 (yes, this is a joke) That would be 9 points a (30 minute) game. I don't see SS playing 30 minutes a game, do you? IMO we shouldn't be looking at his individual stats - we basically have a 2-headed monster, and I believe both he & Chol will be improved. SS on the O-end; AC on the D-end. A better Chol could spell fewer minutes for SS, although we could see a double post on occasion (more so than last year if both are improved). I'd expect each to play 16-24 minutes a game and, with a more confident SS, I'd see our "5" position combining for 12+ & 10+, and ideally 1.5+ assists as well.
As much as I'd like to think each could score 6-10 in a vacuum, I don't think we're going to be in a position where we need to go to them all that often. Pope, Kell, Shrigs, Shep - they're all going to take more shots per game, plus Hemsley & Zylan, etc. Those players alone will take the 17-20 shots that JJ/AQ took per game, so can't see SS or AC getting that many more looks. Maybe a few... SS will just be more efficient on the looks he does get (knock on wood).

If those non 5 guys take on more of the offensive load it could open up the court and make it easier for SS/AC to score more.

Spencer is working hard on his free throws and expects to see a dramatic increase in fg %. He is doing the ol switchero Not a scam post. Legit. He is doing at one of the local high school gyms Just because you're working hard on your free throws, doesn't mean you'll get better in the games......and wasn't Spencer supposed to be much better offensively last year because he'd been working on his game in the off-season??....well, we saw how that worked out. All I'm saying is, I'll believe it when I see it. Not to be uber-snarky, but ditto.

If you shoot underhanded. is that considered right or left handed? Yes. Unless he misses it, then no.

Free throw shooting is all about technic. If you are never taught how to properly shoot them you can't. I can't believe the coaches would not work with him and the rest of the team on this. It cost us games this year.

Free throw shooting is all about technic. If you are never taught how to properly shoot them you can't. I can't believe the coaches would not work with him and the rest of the team on this. It cost us games this year. You don't think they have? Seriously?
And it's not all about technique. Quite the contrary. FT's are as much mental, much more than your typical shot. Some very pure shooters have struggled at the line. Trey Kell has a nice stroke, but struggled at the line. It's about confidence, technique & focus.
It's also about repetitive motion. You can have a funky technique but if you repeat it consistently you can be a very good FT shooter.
FTs are also something where if you really want to make an impact you have to do it on your OWN time.
It speaks to Spencer's ambitions if he's willing to make such a drastic change at this stage of his career. He did a ton working on his FT's LAST year with a shooting coach, and made little strides. It'll take hundreds of hours working on the new stroke to offset years & years of repeating a different stroke. It's much like a golf swing. You can have a funky swing & do OK with it, and then try & change your stroke to be more compact or pure. You might do OK on occasion, and even pretty good on the range. But when you get on the course in a pressure situation many default to their old habits. It takes a lot to where you default to your new swing. So even if he gets to shooting 80% in practice we won't know how this transfers over to games until we actually play them. Hopefully he'll go into games with more confidence though, and be less likely to fear going to the line. Hence the confidence aspect.
Will be interesting to see how far Spencer gets. The good thing is if he does end up right handed he won't have years & years of history from that side, but still a lot to overcome. Wish him well & have faith we'll see an improved %.

You don't think they have? Seriously? Well, I don't know if (s)he's serious, but (s)he's a troll during the season so I wouldn't put too much thought into what (s)he says in the offseason...
