we have a good defensive coach in Hut, but does anybody really believe that we have a good offensive system right now? Our offense looks like they're 5 guys playing rec ball out there. I'm beginning smell troll. One line of attack gets shot down, so another begins. Go Aztecs! And your the man who cried wolf. Any person who doesn't drink the kool-aid and see everything in rose colored glasses is a troll according to you. Some of us fans actually want to see this program get better, instead of just being satisfied with whatever we get. Your obviously content with just the way things are, and that's fine, but it's fans with expectations who force the program to make changes if things are not working out.

What's your solution? Which of our coaches would you fire to make room for your hypothetical NBA guru? Because that is the reality of what would need to happen to make such a hire.

Exactly right. Of course we could trim one of our current coaches and replace him with the NBA talent. But then are you deducting from coaching talent, only to replace him with a promotional chess piece? we have a good defensive coach in Hut, but does anybody really believe that we have a good offensive system right now? Our offense looks like they're 5 guys playing rec ball out there. I'm willing to see how the JAM center benefits our team. Our players will finally have an exclusive facility where they could work on their offense, whenever and as long as they want. If we continue to have poor perimeter shooting then I see your point.

I don't want Hut to leave, and Dutcher is obviously not going anywhere. So I guess that just leaves one person then. I would like to see a coach with an offensive background to help our offense out.

Michael Cage senior would be the perfect guy to add to the staff as we really need someone to work with the Bigs and he comes with NBA cache. Lastly, pulling in Junior along with Senior would be very good. I think recruiting quality Bigs would be a little easier with Senior on the staff.

I'd be all for Cage Sr coming in as an assistant coach. But I'd still like to have a coach who specializes on offense, the way Hut specializes on defense. But maybe Ducth will make that type of hire when Fish retires, creating more room on the staff.

That makes one (I hit the like button by accident) time to quit while you still have at least one on your side. If you have in mind a specific ex-NBA guy, who's a proven offensive genius, and will work for the kind of money we can afford then name him. If not, keep hoping Coach Popovich will consider leaving San Antonio for an Asst gig here.

Not having a staff member that's played in the NBA is not that big of a deal.

Duke has no former NBA players on their coaching staff. Wisconsin has none. Kentucky has none. Michigan state has none. UNLV has one though! Do you want us to be more like UNLV, or the teams in this year's final Four? Trick Question! .........LOL

If the only answer is getting to a Final Four or to win the National Championship Game then yes, I guess things are not working. I think we have gotten better over the last 10 years, perhaps slipped a notch or 2 the last year or 2........I think we will have a very good team this year, rose colored glasses or not!

I don't know if its possible under NCAA rules but I would like to see ur Aztecs hire a great shooting Coach for maybe a week to work with the team on technique. One example would be Chip England ( and there are others) who spent a few hours with Kawhi before the lock out his rookie year. He made a few minor (but very significant) changes to his shot. With his great work ethic Kawhi has become a very good shooter.

Seems things have been awfully quiet for us on the recruiting front.

For this year we have Jeremy Hemsley coming in and he is rated as a top #50-60 recruit. We have Brodricks Jones Power Forward rated 3 star by 2 services and 4 star and #99 in the country by Rivals.By comparison(and comparison purposes only) another Aztec by the name of Billy White was rated 3 star and #130 by Rivals. And Coach has 2 scholarships available to use for this upcoming season. A 5th year Graduate Transfer Point Guard or Scorer are being mentioned a lot along with a highly touted #5 High Schooler. Let's see what the coaches come up with before we get too worried.

Hell, I remember our first Sweet 16 team whose offense relied on jacking up a 3, getting the board and scoring off the miss. Wait...that was our last Sweet 16 team too. We've had good offensive players. Just not a team full of them.

A former NBA player as an assistant coach, recruits obviously want to play in the NBA, what better way to recruit by having one on our staff. A lot of these university's already have one, it's time we have one as well. WE have a head coach who coached in the NBA. WE also have only 2 current players in the NBA. SDS has a lot more pressing issues than a different coaching staff.

What team in our league has an assistant who played in the NBA, gets lots of top 50 recruits and consistently finishes BEHIND US in the standings and hasn't won an NCAA Tournament Game since 2008 and hasn't been to the dance since 2013 - despite it all? In Fish I Trust!
