They just lost Smith for 2016 and I am concerned that they may strike out on 3 pitches of Narain, Cage & Tollefsen. I also haven't seen anything suggesting that Kohne (sp?) is highly interested and Bailey appears to be headed to either Utah or BYU in part because of his Mormon upbringing. Are the Aztecs at a turning point where we regress to the level of an unranked NIT quality program over the next couple of years? I am genuinely concerned about where we are headed at this moment. REACTION!

Recruiting is half the battle / job requirements for a good coaching staff . It is a very difficult job ,especially when we are trying to compete for quality recruits. The better the recruits the harder the staff has to work . We had a good class last year Pope , Zylan , Kell , Zabo but you need to be recruiting hard every year. 2015 looks as though we have a quality PG but time will tell. Positive note Malik is coming back , JAM center still due to be completed . We do not have final word from Shepard or D. Allen if they are coming back . Do not know about Tollefsen (sp) or another grad transfer for 2015 . Narain has not figured out if he will be a 2015 or 2016 , but we have a scholarship for him for either year . Any recruit for 2016 is only a Verbal now ,as we know from K. Smith .Ask Fisher , would guess he would tell you the hardest part about coaching is the recruiting time . You may never get a straight answer from a recruit / as they do not know what they want .

Just hope it isn't related to the negative recruiting on SDSU not being a P5 conference team. This is why the success of the football team and getting into a P5 conference is so important.

What might have been a potentially valid post gets turned into something just shy of troll-material with this little bit at the end. Therefore, cwag has exactly the right "reaction."

every school will always state all the positives about going to their school , including being in a P5 conference , and any other things they can use to their advantage . they will also add the negatives about other schools , so yes we will always be labeled a G5 school , until we can be asked to join a P5 . As of right now that does not seem like that is going to happen . The coaches have to sell the positives we have but it is not easy battling the blue bloods with all their money and advantages . So it is a challenge . We are also known as a school that is known that if you do not play D , you may not get the PT you may want , you know other schools use that against SDSU if they know a recruit's primary thoughts are his points per game . So that eliminates some recruits . Coach has also said that now a days , most recruits want to chat with current players to get "real opinions about a coach or team" . Who do think started the talking with K. Smith about Oregon and Washington , players and possible recruits from those teams.
Also the AAU circuit has certain ties so a coach better be connected to recruit certain players . You also better know who the recruit values as helping them decide what school to attend . It can be a coach , family , player , friend , or ..... The recruiting scene is a battle 24/7 . gets filthy quickly, and it happens every year and will only get worse . You also need to be able to recruit in a variety of places ( have the budget to do it , not sure we do ). So a coach better enjoy recruiting in order to survive the season . So the coaches need to be out there or chatting away , every day to make things happen for them .
So far 2016 has not been stellar , and it is going to be vital to reload , we lose Skylar , Angelo , Winston - if he is here , most likely Malik , so at least 3 starters . We will see how well the coaches can do the rest of the spring summer as they go,a lot of work needs to be done, watch/recruit the AAU circuit and then sweat it out waiting for the early signing time in November .

Well for years we didn't get 4 and 5 star recruits and we did just fine. Of course we have our targets but Coach Fisher and staff are excellent judges of talent and they'll find their DJ Gays, Jamaal Franklins, and Billy Whites.

I don't know why anyone follows recruiting until the kids actually sign. It's a giant waste of time and energy. Who gives a crap who SDSU offers or verbals to SDSU? Just wait for them to sign and until then live your lives and worry about things that really matter in life.

Pessimism about SDSU's football program has been well earned by the abject incompetence or, at best, marginal competence of the coaching staff. However, since the exact opposite has been the case with our basketball team, such pessimism is just inexplicable.

We need to focus on the two scholarships we have available this year first and then worry about 2016.2016 list needs to be revamped with MMA's.As I brought up yesterday if Leaf was not such a moron and had pride in where he grew up we would be in better shape.

I believe in our staff and their ability to recruit. We will get Cage, and a Top 100 SG/SF and a 5th year scorer.

We just had a very good player leave due to our talent, we're opening a game changing practice facility in a few months, and we're freaking out about something (recruits turning us down) that hasn't happened yet? Seriously?
Wow

We will continue to land big time recruits. The conference affiliation is really not that important in hoops. Teams get to play good teams and get on TV. Players want exposure and with Coach Fish at the helm recruits know they can get exposure. The guys that make a difference have NBA talent. Coming to SDSU not only gives you a great experience of sold out games, exciting basketball, but it also has become a road to the NBA. I am not worried in the least.
