Monster great review of your team . You have a great recruiting class . Any opinions on your PG's and the JC forward you signed . As you note you may have too many guys in the battle for PT , how do you see it playing out? Was UNLV ever really looking to sign Max the transfer from IU that the Aztecs picked up? Would you guess was allowed to come back because there was the fear more guys would transfer out and 2015 recruits could have gone else where ? What record does your coach need to have to stay ?
I think Seagears is a big step up from Doolin. Seagears can score. He won't be a beast of a PG, but he'll be a threat offensively and a much better defender than Doolin...who was a liability last season.
TBH I know little about Tyrell Bellot-Green. I think he'll be a JJ Obrien
type guy as and undersized PF. He shoots the ball very well, but I'm not sure if he's SF material.
I don't even know about the PT. We have so many pieces. Someone will be unhappy.
I'm 95% sure Seagears, McCaw, Goodluck and Zimmerman will start.
Cornish shot too well and will see a good amount of time.
Morgan made huge strides as the season went on. We saw his potential and the kids motor is 2nd to none. Remember he was a 5-star. He could make the same jump I thought Savon Goodman was going to make his 2nd year..( Killing it at ASU now.)
Jaylen Poyser and Derrick Jones are highly touted recruits. We all know Jones can jump over the hoop, but I think he'll surprise people with his overall game.
We still have Daquan Cook. Tore his ACL last year and is back. He was always projected as the PG of out future. He could make noise.
Ben Carter is expected to be the grinder for us. He plays smart and does all the the little things. A good screener and has that mid range shot.
I know their was interest in Hoetzel, but I didn't see him coming here. Tyrell Bellot Green committed the day before Hoetzel did with SDSU and that pretty much sealed that chance. Both teams landed the guy they wanted.
A lot of people speculated that if Rice was gone, the whole team was gone. It was a real freak out. However it was all baseless speculation. You really think everyone would transfer to sit out a year? I don't. A lot of these kids still think they have NBA chances. Sitting out a year sets you back a year in a system where everyone thinks they gotta leave for the draft before they hit 20 years old. I'm not saying some kids wouldn't leave, but not everyone.
As for record, I'm not sure.
He needs to win a MWC championship. Season or tourney.
At least 1 game in NCAA.
We have a really tough schedule again.
Maui is loaded (Kansas, UCLA, Indiana, St Johns, Vandy, WakeForest) We play Oregon at the MGM. At Wichita St. Host ASU. At Arizona.
So if we start slow but finish strong it will look better for him, but I think the minimum is what I stated above.
I think there are too many new pieces. Chemistry, youth and experience has been the excuse the past 3 years with 3 different rosters. This season's makeup has all the same problems. Extremely talented, but inexperienced, lacking chemistry and a lot of youth...
It might be same $#!+, same Rice.
Hoping for the best, expecting the worst. Life of a UNLV basketball fan at this point.
