So great we can laugh about this ten years later. What could possibly make our 10-14 basketball team be the lead story on ESPN that night? An afternoon that those of us who witnessed it...will never forget. I had lunch with Coach Fisher and a few friends before this past season. This game was brought up. I mentioned I had a dvd of it somewhere (don't ask...it's packed away someplace)...and that I had a screen capture showing we had the 10 point lead with 18 SECONDS LEFT. Coach Fisher quickly said, "oh no no...there was much more time than that". No way was I going to argue or try to correct him. One...you never win an argument. Two...I recognized instantly someone who had blocked out a very painful memory...an attribute of a great coach. This video might make some of us laugh now. Viewer warning...it may also cause flashbacks and nausea (my flashback is Marcus Slaughter blowing kisses to the crowd with about a minute remaining). You are welcome to pause it with exactly 18 seconds to go and see the score...and the put-back had not gone in the basket yet. Enjoy.

We've become better at closing out games.

I was there. One of the very worst endings to a sports event that I have EVER seen!

I remember listening to the radio broadcast of that one over the internet in my hotel room somewhere in the Bay Area. Lightner was going absolutely nuts.
"It's not over until it's over." Actually, it was over once we choked away that 10-point lead with almost no time left on the clock in regulation.
The video doesn't show Slaughter playing to the crowd earlier after a slam dunk while his man ran down the court for a lay-in. Also, why Fish had horrible foul shooting Trimaine Davis in the game down the stretch is anybody's guess. Fish simply doesn't make those kinds of errors, ever.

Fouling Trimaine Davis before we could even inbound the ball was a smart move by UNLV.
Also why was TD even in the game at that point?
Nightmares.

Even though I was a season ticket holder, I was out of town for this game - thank goodness!

I always think of this game when a team has a ten point lead with a minute left because the game isn't over. Look at all those empty seats. Easy to forget how our games used to be.

Good way to get some original Show members to quit the Aztec club, Dave

WRONG! It was Kawhi's BIG hands handing out the free tix!
