I heard Coach Fisher on the mighty 1090. He said Kevin is looking for a school on the East Coast. Seems his first meeting with Coach Fisher he was going to stay and during the week he decided to transfer

I expect a few to transfer out each season. It is a mark of how far our "program" has come. These young men have five years to play four. It is a small window of life to do what most of us dream of. I would never wish anyone anything but best wishes where they go and thank you for believing SDSU would be a great place to open that window. Kevin seems like a terrific young man with great basketball abilities and potential. He and his next school are going to benefit from Kevin's freshman year here. Best of luck Kevin. Hope we hear and see good things for you down the road.

Best of luck to Kevin Zabo. I think he's gonna make a solid PG for the next team lucky enough to sign him.

I wish KZ all the best and hope he lands in a program where he can succeed. Want to thank him for busting his ass for the Aztec Men's Basketball team. Don't know that he got a fair look or not......do know he got minutes in the OOC part of the season and had some defensive issues and shot 36%. Is that fair to a freshman? I don't know. Maybe he just has typical freshman issues and would have improved?.....who knows. SDSU has HIGHLY TOUTED JH (much higher than KZ) coming in next season and it looks like he will be given a chance(like KZ was) to earn more minutes and possibly start, or maybe to TK at point again. I do wish him nothing but the best of luck and thank him again for representing SDSU in good manner(as far as I know). Does anyone know of academic or other issues?.....Or he thinks he is a better player than the coaching staff does? I really don't like when this happens to our players but know it is a fact of reality. Good luck Kevin!

3 thoughts: 1. Rather see D'erryl go since he's not shown much in 2 years. Zabo had more talent. Between the 2, Zabo has more ability to be a starter so he must've felt he had options elsewhere. 2. Hemsley must be crazy good that Zabo was let go. 3. Opens up a valuable scholarship for front court player Much luck to Zabo. Agreed that we have come a long way to be able to lose someone like Zabo I think DW's defense would have put him above Zabo again next season as well. However, it's not about that right now. Kevin, best of luck to you in your future endeavors. You're always an Aztec For Life with us.

agree he was the first of the four HS recruits . Recruited to play PG , then got passed over when the staff moved Kell to PG , sure hope they move Kell back to SG ,his better position . would guess when Fisher talked with the Zabo family ,they asked about where JH , new recruit was going to play and told PG . they realized there is going to be a log jam there so figured it was time to leave , especially being across the country . IMO , when they moved Kell over to PG that was the beginning of the end for Zabo . he has potential to be a great PG ,but it will not happen here . also doubt we are going to be able to gain extra recruits from CIA Bounce AAU team .
Think it is very Unfair for any one to even suggest it was academics . unless you know his grades you should not even bring that into the conversation.

Best of luck to Kevin Zabo and hopefully he sees lots of playing time wherever he ends up.
This is the tough part of having lots of good players - there's just not enough court time for all of them.

I saw it mentioned somewhere on AztecMesa earlier. I have nothing against KZ.

Sad to see Zabo transfer. He seemed like that true PG we need with confidence to score but just needed to let things slow down. Probably what hurt him most was not playing PG his senior year. Hope he lands at a good school. Worried about Allen. It would hurt the team but be best for his career if he redshirted. Great defender, can get to the basket and draw the foul but needs a jump shot and a few pounds. If I were Allen I would leave now If WS comes back. Players ahead of DA for minutes. Kell Shepherd Shrigley Pope Hemsley, likely incoming 5th year guard, likely If Shepard leaves he could fill the defense first maniac rebounding position. I want him to do well, but I see him getting like 8 minutes next year, not enough for a junior.

I asked here if he was transferring a couple months ago since it seemed obvious based on his decline in playing time and our other options. Good lord did that ever cause the $h!t to hit the fan...interesting how things turn out.

I have never seen or heard anything negative about Zabo . He always seemed positive on the bench , Fisher always said they really loved him . Why even suggest academics or issues about him . Numbers game. It ended up the staff moved Kell to PG , then Kell moved to back up PG as AQ started . Staff felt Zabo had trouble getting through screens , but in reality so did every guard . Zabo 's stats were decent on offense but slipped as did his PT . He became the 4 th PG . Then we recruited another PG JH , who many believe will start . I watched him play in CAL Championships , he is very good and I hope he gets to start at PG. So AQ leaves . If Kell is still back up at PG , So that would still be 4 PG's,so then it was going to be Zabo or DW that was going to leave . Zabo 's parents thought why wait , why not head back toward home and the East coast and see if there was a school near by where he could play . He wants PT ,and was not going to get it here. Fisher may play 10 to start OOC but as many coaches do it ends up being 8 as the season winds down . So he transfers out simple numbers game at PG . But there is no reason to bring up anything hinting about academics or Issues . The issue is PT .

When a team has a great defense, one weak link can ruin that great defense. Zabo didn't get PT because he is that weak link. On a team that has an average defense but needs a PG, Zabo can find some time.

Hope we hear and see good things for you down the road. You expect a "few" to transfer out each year. Our recruiting classes each year usually have 2-4 players, so you expect the majority to transfer out each year? Forty percent of college basketball players transfer by the end of their sophomore year. Our classes are now being made up with a majority of 4 and 5 star players. The caliber of players we are getting now...expect their abilities will have them starting by their sophomore season at the latest. The numbers are not going to work for everyone. Completely understandable why some will transfer. For some it will be a great decision...others it won't be (just like declaring early for the NBA draft). I've said on here for years that my dream is to have a few players transfer out every year so they can get playing time. The dream is for that destination to be the PAC12. Imagine that scenario. It's coming. This is a good thing. I really hope each player that leaves here...benefits from being here and has a great career. I hope we can all look at our transfers like Arizona fans do with Angelo Chol. They still absolutely love him and wish him the best...and root for him. Angelo worked out great for both schools...and him.

For the love of fck can we please not turn this into a thread telling DA to stay/go or saying you'd rather have Zabo than D'erryl? Please?
Wish Zabo the best of luck, he'll be good somewhere. If he's headed east, I'll guess A-10 or lower level BE.

Think he only helps his chances of a professional career, should he stay for his senior year. Hope his personal and family needs allow him to stay. Myyyy Man!
