This move is so typical of that stupid $#!+ Hair. The MVC is rated lower than the MWC. We're the one who's been winning NCAA tourney credits and this will lower our RPI and may affect our seedings. He's unable to see the forest through the trees. I think he did this to protect his cherished goats because they can't schedule worthy teams to play in the mountains. ?? You may want to fact check. Secondly, if you think any of the P5 conferences would schedule an exchange like this, you would be mistaken. I'd rather hear it from the real oracle.

I posted something similar on the first MWC-MVC thread, but the real issue is that this doesn't REALLY help the MW as a whole. The idea is to give MW teams a game against another team that will help with their SOS. I listed the RPI from this past season below (MW was 11 overall, MVC was 12 overall). The problem is that for the most part, teams that need the help play games against teams that are probably worse from an RPI standpoint that a game they could schedule on their own. The teams like SDSU & UNLV will get to play the good RPI teams but other teams are playing RPI killers.

The MWC has been better than the MVC over the past 5 years. The MWC won more games in the last challenge and will again. For the MWC the challenge is a good idea.

Since you guys are discussing the Valley and I posted this elsewhere, thought I would throw this idea out to the fans of the best basketball program in the West:
You guys ought to think hard about trying to add Wichita State to your conference as a non-football school. Their fans do not like being in the MVC as they think it is beneath them.
In the last 5 years they have won the NIT, been to the Final Four, been to the Sweet 16 twice, and been to the NCAAs for 4 straight years. They just signed their legendary coach to a 7 year contract, $3 million a year. They sell out their 10,500 seat arena for every game. They get incredible ratings on ESPN. All of their games are televised in Kansas City and Wichita, adding new basketball-crazy markets for the conference. They have one of the nation's best back courts returning next year, plus they have 3 newcomers coming in next season that are all ranked 4 stars by recruiting services, their best recruiting haul in since Antoine Carr, Cliff Livingston, and Xavier McDaniel in the early 80s. They are probably a preseason Top 10 team next year.
In the last 4 years they have played in 11 NCAA tournament games, beating such teams as Kansas, Indiana, Ohio State, Pitt, and Gonzaga. I believe each NCAA credit is worth over $1 million (correct me if I'm wrong). If the MWC distributes NCAA credits evenly, that means each MVC school would have been a million dollars richer just by having WSU in the conference over the last 4 years. Plus, just by playing them, each school in the MWC would bolster their RPI rankings, possibly getting more MWC teams into March Madness.
Seriously, why would you not jump at that possibility and at least extend an offer? They have home games next year with Nevada, Utah, and UNLV so obviously they are interested in scheduling western teams.
Edit: they also have another home game with New Mexico State

Did SIU just hire an assistant from CAL , Bradley a new one from Green Bay . MV is the step child to the BIG and B12 . As the MW is to the PAC . In MM results MV seems to do as well as MW. Q on the Shockers moving to MW , is all the travel that would have to be going on and are there direct flights . where would the Shockers be for other sports ? Key for the Shockers and MW schools is making sure you play a quality OOC . Would guess that is why Shockers have added schools from the West , if B12 and BIG do not want to schedule them . If the Shockers did move , would the MW keep two divisions West and Mountain for Basketball. West plays home and away games 10 , and one game with the Mountain schools 6 ( 3 road ,3 home )= 16 total conference games more OOC ? Fisher may buy into that .

Must say, the game against Wichita State was such a good game five years ago. Can't believe it's been that long already. WSU was a good team, but unfortunately got in front of a buzz saw of a team in SDSU that year.
Anyone remember the unsung hero of that game? He wasn't one of the starters and came in late in the first half to snuff out a decent run by WSU that if it went unchecked, SDSU may have lost that game. Yes, the hero was Mehdi Chieret. He had a stretch of 3-4 minutes where he provided the only scoring for SDSU. What a great game and season.

Edit: they also have another home game with New Mexico State Would love to add Wichita State. I proposed a scheduling method for 12 basketball teams. Group A 4 best teams Group B 4 middle teams Group C 4 bottom teams Group A plays each team in group A and Group B twice for 14 games. Group A teams also play 2 games against group C. Group B plays each team in group A and Group C twice for 16 games. Group C plays each team in group B and Group C twice for 14 games. Group C teams also play 2 games against group A. This would give the top teams a very good SOS in conference even in down years. This would give the middle teams a chance to have a decent record and decent SOS in conference. This would give the bottom teams a chance to win games so they wouldn't hurt other teams as much when they play them. Teams could request the group they would prefer but be placed in a group based upon specified criteria if requests don't balance.

I read the Illinois State requested to play at SDSU because of their history with Steve Fisher. Steve played for them and defeated SDSU in the 1967 NIT.

Would also guess that the Mountain teams of the MW , have so many problems scheduling OOC games that they jumped at this . Yes this is a very important scheduled game for ISU vs Fisher led Aztecs - wanted it on their home court.

It is better for us if they have a great non conference Rebels beat a Top 5 Arizona team last season, so I wouldn't etch that prediction in stone. Not saying the Rebs are GONNA win, but they are certainly capable.
