Great news. Home game against a solid opponent. As Bill said, what's not to like? Really zero downside. Some great match-ups overall - UNLV should be very talented, but going to WSU won't be easy. Brutal in fact. CSU vs. NI should be a game of teams trending down. NI loses 4 of their top 8, including their primary offensive weapon. I'd bet Illinois St will be better than them. CSU loses most of their best as well.
Meanwhile, SJSU will be playing St Katherines....
Kansas & Illinois St, plus the usual suspects. Should be a solid pre-conference schedule!

Illinois State is good on defense and returning a lot of players. Expect it to be low scoring With our team, I expect that no matter who we play!

The MVC must be pretty hard up to agree to the challenge. I'd guess most solid teams don't want anything to do with the elevation aspect.

Scheduling question: If the new USD coach brings that program to a level where they are a yearly top 100 team, what would be the pluses and minuses of scheduling 2 games a year with USD?

Let's see what USD can do in recruiting first . As of now would do game at Viejas only . Or let's do a WCC challenge - easy travel and possibly a game against a top 3 team in the WCC .
Aztecs also have games at Utah and Long Beach . Maybe Cincy at home ? to go with Kansas. Waiting to see who will be in the T at Las Vegas besides WVU . As CSU and others have learned OOC can be as important as MW games.

At lease we got the home game against "larry bird's" alma mater. Going to Wichita - would have been tough ticket......... Take the W............. now back to stadium fantasy scenarios............... Indiana State. The biggest star from Illinois St. was Doug Collins.

How's this for an idea: Replace the annual game between SDSU and USD by opening it up to the whole county with teams like SD Christian, UCSD, CSU-SM, PLNU. USD and SDSU get a bye into the 2nd round so they each only play one non-D1 team (unlikely that either SDSU or USD take a loss in semi's) It could be played at the Sports Arena (neutral site) to open the season basically for both the Aztecs and Toreros its a tune-up game is followed by the annual USD vs. SDSU game the next day. for the other teams, they could continue on in a consolation bracket

As of now there is no contract between SDSU and USD . So maybe a game at SDSU only . and if we pay them a minimal amount . Very surprised USD is bringing in again a coach with no HC experience , not easy learning all the HC duties . Was interesting to hear Zeigler call it "USD hired a new coach , similar to a guy swinging for a home run with only one eye open " Will see if he has good connections with the AAU circuit ,especially in Texas .

Well this is just complete bullsht. Why? You don't want to play someone who's been good & expected to be good next year? How does UNLV get Wichita? UNLV was 7th in conference, 4th in Kenpom, 5th in RPI, and lose half their team with a garbage coach. Wichita won the MVC, 2nd in Kenpom, 1st in RPI, and should win the conference next year. How does Boise get Bradley?? How does CSU get UNI?? CSU was 3rd in conference, 2nd in RPI, and 3rd in Kenpom, and lose their top 3 scorers, rebounders, MPGers, and 2/3 assisters. UNI was 2nd in conference, 1st in RPI, and 2nd in Kenpom Utah St. only gets 8th in MVC, 248 RPI Missouri State? -- It could have been worse for us (getting the 3rd best MVC team), but we also should have had gotten Wichita, with UNI at the verrrrrry least.

As I posted earlier in this thread, neither SDSU or WSU would have gone for playing at road game against each other. WSU now gets a UNLV team that usually schedules well and therefore won't hurt their RPI and the Rebels are still a marquee name. SDSU gets a home game against what sounds like will be the MVC's second best team. Neither conference was going to put their best team on the road against another top 30-type team.

What I think will be interesting is NEXT year. The press release doesn't say how long this 'challenge' will be in place but the last one was for 4 years so that is probably a safe bet. SDSU and WSU are both at a much higher-level nationally that they were the first time around and I could see them pushing against playing road games in this series (especially against low-RPI teams) but will they have to (as happened in the first one, with 2 road & 2 home games). I would think both teams can schedule better home games than whatever MWC-MVC road game dictated by the series.

This is a 4 year agreement. So WSU will play 4 different MWC teams over those 4 years. So having UNLV being one of those teams is not out of line. Same thing about our game.

UNI isn't supposed to be very good next year, so why would you want them? So. Illinois was better than them last year & will be better than them next year as well, so don't think you base it off one (this) season. IMO UNI & CSU are a perfect match-up - both were good this year and both will be losing most of their better players.
I would also expect they gave some teams the opportunity to host vs. travel. UNLV should be very good next year, and it's not like their RPI was low this year. WSU gets to host; we get to host. Both are great match-ups. Both should fill their respective arenas. Both will have TV appeal with at least 1 top 25 team in each game.
I agree with you about BSU - not sure how they got paired? If anyone should be unhappy it'd be them, but maybe it's a host/travel issue? Bradley does return almost everyone, albeit off a bad squad.
Missouri St returns virtually every player, and weren't bad the year before. USU returns virtually every player. Both should be much improved. That actually looks like a decent match-up. Maybe Evansville would have been a better matchup??
