Based on the posts in this thread, little to very little of the posters have been to the Fowler Athletic Center. Frankly, these places are still way behind the training facilities of State. Stadium on the other hand, is another story. Fowler is nice but it's nothing special. That's why there are plans to expand Fowler.
It's unfortunate we face a major hurdle with the stadium, as Wyoming/CSU, etc. can have their FOB & stadiums connected, and can make major renovations and/or build new ones without being hamstrung by the city/Chargers.
Our football facilities clearly fall behind many within our own conference, and are miles behind the P12.
Luckily we have more control over what we can and can't do with basketball, and have maximized our facilities in that area.
Qualcomm is the nicest stadium in the conference and one of the nicest stadiums for college football in the entire country. BTW: How many heads are going to explode if after the May 20th announcement, Hirshman comes out in full support of the combined venue in MV and urges Aztec fans and boosters to buy PSL's in support of the effort to get it built?

Maybe he should ask the president's of Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, MIT, Cal Tech, U of Chicago or UPenn. IOW, 8 of the top 10 Universities in the nation, none of which have "Tier 1" athletic programs. Or he could ask the president's of Dartmouth, Johns Hopkins, Washington U, Cornell or Brown, 5 of the next 10 on the list. Just to help the idiot president of that august institution, the U of Houston( #189) count, that's 13 of the top 20 institutions of higher leaning in the US that do NOT have a "Tier 1" athletic programs. This line of argumentation/ rationalization is a weak as it gets. BTW: SDSU is at #149 this year, Seems like it was in the 160's last year. She, guessing you didn't watch. Why would I waste my time watching a moron?

She, guessing you didn't watch. Why would I waste my time watching a moron? You call her a moron, yet you haven't provided a reasonable response that would qualify her as one. How does aspiring to have premium level academics and athletics make someone a moron? Just because some schools have not tried that? What is the source of your endless sour? lol

Don't worry. As soon as the NFL team splits town, the football program's digs will match the rest of the campus facilities -- which is to say that they will play and train in facilities that will be head and shoulders above anything in the MWC and better than most in the nation.
Besides the Engineering School's digs -- now being upgraded, it's the only missing piece, and a glaring one at that. God, I hate the poison brilliantly disguised as champagne that the Chargers have been over the decades.

Exactly. The Aztecs hooked their little caboose to the Chargers' train decades ago and are now paying the price for having made that decision. We all understand why the school made that decision back then, but understanding why the decision was made does not alter the fact that it was a fateful one that more and more seems short-sighted.
All the negativity I am reading on AztecMesa about the stadium question has made me more and more pessimistic about the chance that SDSU will ever be able to build a first class football program. The key question is simply this; Do the people who run the school even care? It has been posted that, to be blunt, what happens to Aztec football is of no great importance to those who run the school. If that is the case, we might as well pack it in.

Just back from a trip to Austin. What a wonderful city that is. Growing by leaps and bounds. Progressive with priorities firmly in mind. Culture everywhere, including some of the most die hard football fans anywhere. Watching local sports news was a trip. Every freaking Longhorn sport was professionally covered. Had me thinking of what SDSU could be if the Charges decided to take their toys to LA. Is it possible that State and SD as a whole would be better served putting that money towards City improvements? Would the city and county rally to support SDSU if they were the only true football game in town? I don't hate the Chargers, but if I had to make a choice between keeping the chargers and giving SDSU a real chance at making the jump to county and national prominence, I choose SDSU. I am from Texas so maybe I am biased, but I believe in investing in schools and football. Seeing Austin again reminded me that cities not only survive without pro football, they actually can thrive with the right leadership.
Perhaps this is the wrong place to post this, but it was the highest seated post so... Feel free to move it if necessary.

Lol. COLORADO STATE will be the best in the MWC and one of the best in the west. FRESNO STATE is better. AIR FORCE is better. WYOMING is better. The list is growing yearly with all the improvements being made in the MWC. Have you even been to the Q for an SDSU game?

Of course! Being a 25 yr season ticket holder I've actually been to quite a number of games. Easy parking, comfortable seat, decent stadium food, good beer. What you whiners don't like about the stadium has far more... FAR MORE....did I mention FAR MORE to do with the sh!tty product on the field that existed for decades and the resultant crappy attendance. In fact, I suspect the giant panty wad you guys are suffering from related to a potential ND-Navy game is in no small part that it will put paid to the nonsensical notion that a college "atmosphere" cannot be had at the Q.

Been to my fair share of Holiday and Poinsettia bowls at the Q. I've also been to games at other college stadiums. Based on my experiences there is very little college atmosphere at the Q regardless of what team plays there. To state the obvious, it is after all an NFL stadium.

The Q is a comparative crap hole in relation to the NFL state of the art. It needs to be replaced. That does not obviate the fact that it's a pretty damn good college stadium. No ... I think you were right in saying the product on the field has been crap for too long -- in this case the Chargers. If they aren't making enough money on the Q, they have only themselves to blame. I mean if they fielded teams that fans would want to pay money to see, then the need for ticket guarantees and blackout avoiding last minute purchases of tickets by sponsors would be unnecessary. If the team had not been so crappy, they might have been able to raise ticket prices, fill club seats and suites ... increasing their own bottom line. In case you are not getting it -- the Q is terrible for college games. Seats on the sidelines are what 75' + from the field at their closest? The first 10 or so rows are unsellable as obstructed view. No the stadium is unsuitable for neither the "college gameday experience" needs of the Aztecs nor for the profit generating needs of the Chargers.

I am not anti- Charger but I question whether The Chargers/City of San Diego are really concerned about creating a great College experience in a new ProStadium and if they are concerned is this even possible ? If not I would rather see The Chargers in LA and The Aztecs get a new great College Stadium.
