Give people a chance. SDSU looked like a dead end job when Fisher took it. It took him nearly 10 years to turn things to what they are now. Not saying Smith is on Fisher's level because it's not even close, but you never know what he's capable of.

chances Hutson could be the HC or assistant at ASU , who has really messed up their situation there ? How have they "messed up their situation"? They identified Jeff Capel as their primary target, they've talked to him & it went very well, and he's STILL their #1 target BUT his team is still playing. They identified him as their target within 24 hours of Sendek leaving, and I'm sure any & all recruits were very well aware of that.
I'm sure he'll be offered the job on Tuesday.
Whether he has ties to Justin and/or if he targets him for West Coast recruiting I don't know, but Capel has a ton of connections.
I really doubt Justin is a viable option for this HC job - they'll go much higher profile & most likely with someone with HC experience. That's a program that could be big time, given their new practice facility, weather, scenery, etc.

Coach Hutson is a beast. Would feel much better if he was our coach in waiting instead of Dutcher, who i really have no confidence on getting the job done.

From the UT: SDSU assistant Justin Hutson met last week with Snyder, an SDSU alumnus, but never heard from USD officials again. He learned of Smith’s hiring from the press release.
I'm sure Snyder called Dave Rice to ask him what happened there. If Rice said good things about Hut, then Rice would look bad when Hutson came back to SDSU at a lower salary (BTW, that could be a stain on Hut's resume). So for Rice to cover his ass, I would say he told Snyder that Hutson just didn't fit in with what he's trying to do. Even if that's the case a smart AD should see through it, seeing how Rice is such a shitty coach. When UNLV cans Rice, Hutson will be vindicated.

I hear your opinion, but either way, even if things don't go as whatever the AD's expectations are when Dutcher takes over, the great thing is that Fisher & Co. have built SDSU into a legit program, and that the HC job is a very desirous position. I mean San Diego sells itself, but the arena, fan support, and level of respect SDSU now gets for hoops is very very attractive for other potential coaches. On a completely different note.... I'm thanking USD BIG TIME for 1. NOT hiring away Justin Hutson and 2. Taking away one of our conference rivals top assistants! WIN WIN for our Aztecs!

I just don't see it. They will always be playing in the shadows of Arizona. They were good with Harden, but those types of players don't go to a program like that very often. Sendek took NC State to 5 straight NCAA tourneys before taking over in Tempe. So it wasn't like he was a guy that didn't know how to win and get to the dance.

No doubt they've underachieved, and you'd think Sendek would have been a good hire. Only success is when a 5-star basically fell into their laps in Harden & Carson. But they have what you need to be very successful. Arizona may be THE school, but how far apart are UNC & Duke? It's not like 2 teams in close proximity can't both be terrific.
They've invested in hoops, have a great practice facility, and other than a great history have a lot going for them. Whether they get there - who knows, but it's not a bad job. Not like they don't care about hoops.
