Narain has great range on his shot, extending to the 3 point line, and has a smooth stroke, but a point forward? Pope is a point forward, not sure if Narain has the same ball skills. But time will tell, I really don't know enough about him from the little I've seen of him. I also really love how everyone thinks they are an expert because they watched a mixtape of a recruit or read something on rivals or scout. I do know our staff did an amazing job landing him.

JJ O'Brien is also a point forward. Narin is a good passer. His can take the ball up court. He is a very good athlete. Do you even know what a point forward means? I love that you don't know anything about him but, you like to make fun of scouting sites that have seen him play. Classic!

I'm extremely saddened if Narain ends up playing a point forward position for us, that means our true guard play truly sucks. In any sense, a stretch 4 I can see pretty easily as he's got a good stroke out to 20'. Back to Bailey...anything new?

I would agree with you about Cage . But he is the one saying he prefers to play PF /4 position in college . Looking for schools that see him playing that position in their offensive scheme . So that is what the Aztec coaches need to present to him if they want him to come here . Could be a situations that with both Narain and him in the line up they could share responsibilities ,of the 5 and 4 positions on both ends of the court, as they both want to develop the skills at that 4 position . Same way Aztec coaches showed on their power point presentation to Zylan how they would use him . Also Shepard asked for opportunity to play PG when he signed here . Guys want to play the position in college they are going to play in the pros . Cage has the leverage to ask if he will get the opportunity to play the position he prefers .

On the contrary dear Watson, I'm not making fun of the recruiting sites, just questioning the people who put all their chips on those sites. I too can look at a players highlight tape and say he is all world. But never in a Narain mixtape does it show him handling the ball like a point guard, bringing it up the court, that is all I'm saying. Maybe he runs the offense, but it just doesn't appear so, but the boy does have game from those highlight reels I've watched. I have never been to Indiana to see him in person though.

Believe Aztecs have the real deal at PG , with JH . Major problem last year was the guard play . So that should "free up " guys to get open not have to be point forward . We should get a very good idea about JH's abilities as the 2015 season moves forward , but remember he is a freshman this year . Also Zylan at the forward positions . Narain we Hope will be here as red shirt for 2015 learning or come in fresh for 2016 . So JH , Zylan and Narain are the building blocks going forward in 2016 , then see if we can add another quality player hope Bailey , who is going to enjoy playing the summer AAU circuit , or Cage or Recruiting wars are only going to heat up as the summer gets going.

And yet he won't play the position wherever he ends up Absolutely true, but playing the "5" in the Aztecs' system is pretty equivalent to an NBA 4 (i.e. Malcolm Thomas). So if that's his end goal (one would assume), then playing on The Mesa would be perfect.

IMO Kell would be better if the Aztecs moved him back to his natural position SG , get back his stroke and put points on the board . need him to score the basketball. JH at PG , Kell at SG with Shrigley and Williams coming in to relieve them .

Kell was a SG in HS and the Aztec coaches should have let him play there last year . That is the toughest position to learn in college . As we saw from Winston experiment , then Kell , then AQ , none were able to do it at a high level. Not easy when you do not play it in HS . Was one of our weakest links last year . Did not help the team and it really hurt Kell's scoring . We need Kell to go back to do what he knew how to do in HS score the basketball . JH was a PG in HS , so from day one he should be the PG or battling DW for the starter at that position . Yes he will make mistakes at first but by mid season should be far superior to the guys we had last year. Kell should have been battling Polee , Shrigley last year at the SG . So this year Kell should stay at SG with Shrigley , then slide Allen or even Pope there if needed . No did not prefer Kell at PG .

JH at PG , Kell at SG with Shrigley and Williams coming in to relieve them . Kell will benefit more from it being his second year than anything else. He'll play all the guard positions this year, including PG and will have to do less "thinking" in general on the court. He'll be more able to just react, no matter what position he plays.
Kell struggled more because he was a FR than anything, and yet still thrived at times. This next year he should be more consistent.
The kid is among the key core of this team moving forward. The coaches actually saw him as being years ahead of Tapley when they recruited him, so we'll see if can live up to those expectations. I believe he can.

So why not just let JH start out at PG , his natural position and start the transition to college ball with Williams gaining confidence , to be a quality reserve there . Kell get back his scoring ability at his natural position SG , as noted by Fisher we need more scoring , and that will need to come from all the guys coming back . Let him focus on scoring with Shrigley and others at SG. If JH and Williams can not handle PG then move Kell back there but don't over load Kell , he was brought in to score the basketball, start doing that . Let guys do what they do best rather then improvise at PG . We are going to need consistent scoring at SG ( Kell , Shrigley ) not just shooting , plus SF Pope (Allen/ Zylan or Winston if they slide there or Shrigley ) . We did not add the scorer that Fisher had hoped for 2015 so it will need to come from the vets . Kell has the potential to be a scorer if he focuses on that rather then be both a SG and PG . There is a lot of work in being a good SG , master that first , it will help the team . Put him in a position that he can really help the team . Coaches recruited JH to be the PG and also Williams let them play there if they both fail then slide Kell there . Kell has a good BB IQ similar to JJ , but is not a high quality PG . IMO JH/Williams at PG , getting the other guys involved and into position then Kell/Shrigley.... at SG , has the potential to be a winning situation for all of them and the team . We need consistent 15 points from the SG position . Kell still has to master the SG position .

We need consistent 15 points from the SG position . Kell still has to master the SG position . I'm sure JH will start out at PG, but Kell will play there as well. You know Fish is going with a 8-9 man rotation, and you want your BEST players on the court, regardless of position. We recruit players, not positions. Kell struggled because he was BOTH a FR and had to learn a new position. He's learned the position & he's no longer a FR. He should be a different player, and he doesn't need to learn nor master being a SG. That simply comes with playing. When JH & Kell are on the floor together one is not JUST the PG & the other the #2 - they'll both handle the ball, as will Winston & Pope. We'll have 4 ball handlers; 4 guys who can penetrate & score or pass.
We have a lot of line-up flexibility. I hope Williams makes it into the top 8 or 9, but with Hemsley, Kell, Winston, Shrigs, Pope, Zylan, DA, Sky & Chol that won't be easy. Who sits? You don't take Kell off the floor just because William is a "true" point; he beat out Williams last year as a FR at point. Hemlsey, Kell & even Winston can play the point at times; Kell, Winston, Shrigs & Pope can play the 2 at times; Winston, Pope, DA, Shigs & even Zylan can play the "wing" at times; Winston, Pope, Zylan & even Chol can play the 4; and you have Sky, Chol & even Jones in the post. You have more than enough to play the 2-4 next year, and even moving into 2016.
We don't need a "consistent 15 points from the SG position". We need consistent scoring from the team as a whole, and I wouldn't care if Pope & Winston each averaged 30 as long as we won. If Hemsley & Kell each score 8-12; Win 12-16; Pope 12-16; Posts 8-10 and remaining bench 15-18 we'll be fine. That's 70+ points; this team will be fine if we're scoring 70+ points per game. My guess is we'll have 1-2 players popping for big games, and that rotating from week to week with Win & Pope being the most consistent threats.
JH is going to struggle at times because he's a FR; most do. Kell's gone through the curve. Williams could spell JH for a few minutes, but he has to beat out Kell & make the team better than they are with Kell on the floor to do so. I think the 8-9 best players are those mentioned above, with Williams & Jones being the peripheral guys. DA vs. Shrigs will be an interesting battle for time, as will Kell vs. JH vs. Williams. But ultimately you only play 8-9.

Yes Fisher normally goes with about 8 down the stretch maybe 9 if the reserves show their talents are needed . So would hope the top 5 would be Spencer - Pope , Shepard , Kell and JH . Reserves Chol at the 5 , Zylan or Allen as reserves at forward , Shrigley or Williams as back u( knowing both player and coach have to agree on red shirting- plus if you start as red shirt you can always be moved to the active list) We do have multiple guys that can play a variety of positions . So nothing is set in stone for line ups depends on who is producing and what skills are needed . One weakness, last year was average to below average PG play , so it became JJ's duties as a point forward , the PG's did not have the greatest full court vision and get guys the ball to score . JH has those skills and Williams needs opportunity to show if he can do it, needs PT and confidence he is wanted . If not then Kell could be third option there. Scoring at the SG position was not consistent , so let Kell focus on that part of his game . He used to be good at both shooting and driving to the basket for scoring , it dropped off , needs to go back to putting the ball in the hoop , seems it was not there as he was working on PG duties . Learning PG's job is not easy. Shrigley can then be the outside shooter , reserve or beat out Kell . Would guess the Aztecs may need about 15 points from the 2 , 3 , and 4 positions and maybe 12 to 13 points per game from the 1 and 5 positions . = 70 points per game. Plus a lot more assists from the PG. Maybe if we have PG's that can distribute the ball well, in an offense that is more up tempo that can continually attack the basket for 40 minutes, we can average close to 70 points a game .
