we got 4 OoC games scheduled for 2016, but this better not happen again in 2017 where we only have 3 OoC games right now ... Regarding this year, whatever the exigence -- we may be down to 2 options if we can't find an FBS or FCS opponent: go with 11 games, because only games against FCS or FBS teams count towards bowl eligibility or schedule a D-II team for a tune-up, knowing it wouldn't countThat's what's been on my mind, as well. If it comes down to that as the only possibility, the school is going to have to think long and hard about which is the lesser of two evils. As for Division II teams, maybe we should not think it would be easy to find one. I suppose that a lot of those school might be interested, but they have their own schedules to consider. As for a DI school playing a DII school, I'm pretty sure that has not happened in a long time. And as for the problem as a whole, we have Boise State to thank for it. Looks like they are screwing us the way BYU screwed the WAC and then the MWC. Nice! In any case, this has to be resolved very soon. I'd say it's a matter of a few weeks at most. Beyond that it will be too late. Schedules and media guides have to be printed. AzWm

The truth about scheduling issues is this is a product of us going to the BIg East. We also do not have money to throw around and this is why we are in the situation. Or... that we had an agreement on a game but the other party backed out REAL late and now we're left scrambling. However, yes... lack of $$$ to buy OOC home games is a big issue as well. It's all 3 - by product of Big East (SJSU now conference vs. non-conference), we did manage to replace the game but the other team backed out AND we don't have a lot of money to easily fix the issue.
Unfortunate, but it is what it is.

D-II is very likely, I hear we're trying to work a MAC deal out. Otherwise hello Cal Lutheran, Whittier or Pudget Sound. Sterk comes out with the Top 25 talk, and we're left with no $$$ and FCS/D-II schedules.

As for scheduling, this was LONG in the works (2 years ago) before Rise to 25. The whole reason for the Rise to 25 is to avoid scheduling issues, among MANY other reasons.

They are all non-scholarship programs. Might as well play a good JC team. There are only two D-II football schools in CA: Azusa Paific (the closest) and Humboldt State. As for other D-II programs in the West, there are eight . . . Adams St (CO) Central Washington Colorado School of Mines Colorado State Pueblo Eastern New Mexico Mesa St.(CO) New Mexico Highlands Western New Mexico And, for an international flavor, there is Simon Fraser in British Columbia. Take your pick! AzWm

Does The Marine Corps Depot still have a team?? Don't laugh! They were damned good before Vietnam pretty much killed off services teams. Even St. Coryell had a hard time beating them. If the Leathernecks still had a team, I would be tempted, I admit. AzWm

Reading above there is a general lack of common understanding here about CF scheduling. The assumption is that scheduling teams is like coming into a huge cafeteria where you just order what you want. Go left and you get a cold piece of moldy pizza that is a week old, or, head right and select a choice cut of filet magnon cooked just the way you want it. Your choice of opponent to dine on. Right? So, instead of Dixie State, if you want to play USC, you just do!!! Just that simple, right? It will be hugely amusing in the next week or so to read the posts here when it is official that the Aztecs will play cold pizza on Sept. 5. How many posters here will be dumbfounded, indignant, incredulous. "Why didn't they just play the filet"? What fun we'll have reading the reactions. I promise to back away from this tired subject soon as the announcement is made. See my sig. below.

First and most important is getting a game for the football team . So they have a game under their belt before they play at CAL . If not then just have solid scrimmage , and see if the team can pick up a game during a bye week . Fans are going to complain any way so do what is best for the team . Or even have a game vs USD mid way through fall practice .

Hate to break the news… personal experience says it doesn't get any better when they're 2 college-age daughters. Can't say if that extrapolates here, as well… LOL
