so you're saying good players, with high upside are critical for a final four run?

also add the guys from Arizona and Kansas .... puts a reality check into the thoughts of some of the Aztecs . Deliver as the teams moves through MM and your stock rises.

so you're saying good players, with high upside are critical for a final four run? It definitely makes your life easier... Teams lacking that level of talent basically have to catch lightning in a bottle and have a couple guys get hot at the right time. The most talented team doesn't always win, but that's the way to bet.

I don't think Cauley-Stein is that good though other than being pretty mobile for his size. In my opinion Winslow has actually been the real star for Duke in the tournament. He's extremely quick, has great moves to the basket, can shoot the 3, rebounds very well for his size, and is a really good defender.

NYK (14 wins) - big man (Okafor) MIN (16 wins) - big man (Towns) PHI (18 wins) - Winslow, Mudiay, or Russell (personally I go Winslow). If they draw #1 they may trade down with LAL to get what they want at #4 to save money plus the #27. LAL (19 wins) - big man (Cauley-Stein or go with Winslow or Russell)

Okafor probably has better footwork and post moves, but I could just as easily see Towns going ahead of him.
Towns shoots over 80% from the free throw line which is pretty rare for a big man, makes him pretty dangerous in the NBA they will often just foul big men ex. Deandre Jordan. (Okafor 51%)
Their big man basically shoots free throws over 10% better than anyone on SDSU did this year , haha (except Shrigs who was 6 for 6 for the year, AQ shot 70%)

Very similar size, athleticism, and skill set. Better motor than Rudy Gay though

In addition, getting favorable match ups, having an opponent upset the higher seed prior to playing you and/or catching a team or two on an off night helps too.

I guess this is "good news" for those of us who would like to see them both back and dream of what next season's squad could accomplish. I don't begrudge either Winston or Malik going pro and making a great living when the time is right for each, I think it's wiser and there's no downside to either of them coming back next season- not for them or for the program.

Malik will be back, Shepard's road will be tough if he thinks he'll be drafted. He'll make the Summer League as a FA and end up in Spain, or Turkey if lucky. Otherwise China or Asia. Look at Jamaal one year in Memphis then to China. His LA Defender D league numbers are great 19.5 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 6.3 apg and hit can now hit a jump shot.
Shep needs a jump shot, and to finish at the rim.
