He knows If he wants to improve his team San Diego is a good place to start. And, California is perfect to get better players to help your team win.

No secret for most schools in the MW , best places to recruit HS MBB close by is Texas and CA . Arizona usually gets the best CA guys, including San Diego . would guess for guys from San Diego if they are very good they are going to go to the best schools they can actually play in be it PAC or MW . So if they are really good say Leaf , it is Arizona , or another PAC , or probably SDSU in the MW . Know you can not get the PT , you head to another school .

Any of those players are ours if we want them.

If I lived/worked in NV I would certainly spend my recruiting time in San Diego as much as possible. We live in paradise.

Smart move. Good selling/recruiting point that you get to come home once a year and play in front of your family and friends in a sold out, top 5 national crowd and arena. These local kids have all been to Aztec games. If you can't wear red and black, why not come back home and try and beat them and have an incredible experience

There is 1 major HS player to get from San Diego: 2017 recruit Deandre Ayton by far the best player in San Diego for the last 10 years .

Leaf a top 10 selection for 2016 is headed to U of A
If there is any way we can land Ayton, Balboa Prep Academy in San Diego rated the best player in the Country for 2017 , would be incredible.

Not to de-rail the thread too much but the guy on my realistic 2017 wish list is Brandon McCoy... Kid is a stud, I predict his stock will rise even more. And don't get your hopes up about Ayton, chances are slim to none

Norman Powell wasn't half bad, he'll be playing NBA basketball next fall.

2017 could be one of the best years for HS basketball recruits in San Diego
Ayton #1 , also Jaylen Hands , Brandon McCoy and Renathan Ona Embo all top 100 HS recruits as of today on Rivals .
Leaf is a top 10 for 2016 heading to Arizona.
Believe that is better then Powell , Kell , Shrigley , Chol(not sure where he was rated ) .

Not sure why these players keep going to UA. SDSU was beating them pretty regularly until Miller started recruiting every stud in Cali. However, the Aztecs still have been very close to beating them on a neutral court. I think they could have beaten them a couple of times had the games been at Viejas. Why leave San Diego for the desert when the fan atmosphere is just as good or better, the team is almost as good, and you get to live in San Diego.

In absolutely no terms am I endorsing Tucson over San Diego or U of A over SDSU, but if you were to spend any amount of time in the city of Tucson, you would see how rabid that city is for their Cats. The fan atmosphere in our respective arenas are very similar, but outside of McKale and Viejas, it's like night and day. U of A gear worn EVERYWHERE, and the city paper is full of Wildcat basketball news year 'round. It's not even close and never will be, and I mean that as a compliment to San Diego. We have much more to occupy our time. To answer your question, many recruits love the constant rabid attention.

Musselman hard on the recruitment trail hanging out with the Compton Magic this weekend. Here with Cameron Oliver 6'9 225. Nevada may be a contender in a few seasons. He is aggressively recruiting and with a NBA background.

Believe they just added 6'3' SG, Marcus Marshall transfer from Mizu State , 2nd leading scorer in the MV Conference , 20 pg believe he sits this year then plays the next , had an altercation with his coach.

I played against Musselman in pony league. He was very competitive and used to hate when I would strike him out. All that aside, he is a very savvy judge of basketball talent and he will have Nevada in the upper half of the league probably by next year. He knows the San Diego area like the back of his hand and will probably impact USD's recruiting as well as the Aztecs.

I think the addition of Musselman at Nevada and Bobby Hurley at ASU will make recruiting more competitive for the MW schools. We'll see in the future as the novelty wears off.

I know this is a basketball thread, but also just about every top football prospect in San Diego has a Nevada offer. I could understand losing these kids to Pac-12 schools, but it sure would suck to lose some local pigskin talent to the Wolf Pack
