in the recruiting section ,there are some comments about JH and the game from guys that attended the game . He played well against smaller competition , his team mates love to toss up a lot of shots , so it was not that easy to get a complete read about his all around game . Believe the game will be re- shown on TWC Sports Network mid week . There are also games that 2016 recruit Ben Kone for Mitty and M. Cage are playing in today.

Tell me that Michael Cage's kid has become an Aztec like his dad and then I'll become excited.

Winning a state championship in the state of CA in basketball is a tremendous accomplishment.
Particularly as a public school, props to Jeremy and his teammates, that is a job very well done.
Can't wait to see this young man in the program, I have a good feeling about him!

Can't wait to see this young man in the program, I have a good feeling about him! It's only a Division III title, a bit less impressive. Maybe things are different now, but when I was in high school the competition below the Division I level wasn't that great.

Here's what the L.A. Times had to say about the newest Aztec; and all this was before he dropped in 20 points to lead hi team to the CIF Division III championship:
Jeremy Hemsley, La Verne Damien, Sr.: Damien students would vote to hold a parade to honor Hemsley, who's beloved on campus because of his unselfish, humble personality. Headed to San Diego State, he's a guard with many skills who does whatever it takes to get his team a victory. Damien is trying to win its first state title in Division III. "He's such a special person," Coach Matt Dunn said. "It's more than just our team that benefits from him. It's our entire school community."[/i]
Don't care whether it's Div. III or Div. LXV, this guy's a proven leader, winner, and a point guard to boot. Congrats to Coach Fish and his staff for securing a really good player and great citizen. Does anyone remember B. Heath?

Prep basketball in California has changed, since the advent of the "Open Division".The power in high school basketball rests with the private schools. The strongest division in the southern section was division lV with such schools as Bishop Montgomery,Cathedral,Crespi, and Cantwell.Sierra Canyon is division V and was considered the #1 ranked school for much of the year.

The Real Oracle Out Yes, so a lot of small private schools are in lower divisions. Personally I don't think division matters that much in high school basketball. There's so many awesome teams/players in lower divisions because those smaller private schools can recruit... and the division 1 public schools also are really good because they're big schools

In CA prep hoops, state and CIF division sans the Open Division is enrollment based.
Last year the entire Trinity League played for a CIF title

CA only had 2 of the top 30 rated HS players in the country ( Rivals ) . As is the story nation wide - basketball is a slanted situation . Many of the top players go to a Prep School , any where in the US , not that many quality ones in CA . Then we have the Open Division that includes many Private Schools - this year Mater Dei OC ( again ) vs O Dowd . O Dowd had the best player in CA Rabb PF, who is deciding between Arizona and CAL . his PG was very good rated about #145 , Austin , is going to BSU . Mater Dei has Rex ( going to N.D.) and M. Cage (2016 ) .
According to those who attended the games . The Damien team JH played on was not too disciplined , toss up a lot of threes . The player guarding JH ( 6'4") was well under 6 ft.
BJ's team lost the weekend before the finals . He is very thin and could need a lot of direction. and time in the weight room
TWC is replaying some of the games mid week.

For those worried about the "only Div III" comment, Damien played Chino Hills twice and won both games. Chino Hills played in Div 1 state championship game. Damien also played in the southern section open Division playoffs. Enough said.
