Just something to think about until next season starts

I would tend to think not.

Not as of right now... If Pope and Cheatham live up to the high expectations, it would be plausible to speak of the new troika in similar terms to the first three, but that's setting the bar really high. All three of them could score, all three could defend, all three could rebound. To be ranked above them, not only would Pope and Cheatham need to be the beasts we think they can be, but Sky would need to step up his game a little as well. It will be a lot of fun watching them to see if they can achieve that level of overall play. If they can, we're probably looking at a deep run in the tournament.

IMO not likely. It's really impossible to tell as Cheatham hasn't been on the court, and I say it's unlikely because the latter trio IMO is the best we've ever had. Kawhi needs no introduction, Billy could take over a game at any given time (see @ Gonzaga), and lastly Malcolm has been a fringe NBA player who could go on the block and post up and get you 10pts on any night.

Sounds like my favorite brokerage firm: Dewey, Cheatham & Howe

No way.
People forget how good Kawhi was. And Thomas would be getting plenty of time in the NBA if he was a little bigger. Billy White was off and on, but still a offensive and defensive presence and sometimes force. That front line may have been the best in the Nation that year. (That team was by far our best team, even though they almost lost in the round of 32!)
If our players don't make a solid improvement from last year, we will be facing a down year.

Probably not. Kawhi/Billy/Malcolm all played together at the height of their college careers. Zylan is going to be playing his first season of college basketball while Spencer will play his last.
Could they be individually better? Maybe, but I don't think those 3 next year will be better than the forwards of '10/'11. I think some of us have forgotten how good that team was.

Nope. The Cheatham expectations are not realistic.

^^ This. Love what Spencer does on defense as a rim protector, but a starting frontcourt of Cheatham, Pope, and Shepard would be so dynamic and athletic (and enough size). Cheatham is a high energy athletic monster, but is also supposed to be a very good passer. Anyways, doubt it would happen considering Spencer is a 3 year starter, but who knows...... BTW, I've been a regular reader of the forum for years, I guess I had a wild hair and finally decided to post.

The answer is we don't know. Cheatham looks like he could be very good, he's been called "the beast" by players on the team. He has been playing on the scout team and could bring a lot of energy to this team.

Cheatham is not really a freshman. Pope can be equal if not better than Kawhi in college( not NBA) spencer needs offense to be as good as Malcolm, but next year could be special.

For comparison... this is what would need to be achieved:
KL: 15.5 pts 10.6 reb 2.4 ast 0.6 blk MT: 11.4 pts 8.1 reb 2.3 ast 2.0 blk BW: 10.3 pts 4.4 reb 1.6 ast 0.8 blk A composite of 37.2 pts, 23.1 reb, 6.3 ast, 3.4 blk
Our returning (I hope!) "Big 3" this year: WS: 11.1 pts 5.3 reb 1.9 ast 0.3 blk MP: 5.1 pts 2.7 reb 0.6 ast 0.8 blk SS: 3.7 pts 5.1 reb 0.3 ast 2.5 blk A composite of 19.9 pts, 13.1 reb, 2.8 ast, 3.6 blk
If we "normalize" both sets to stats per 40 minutes we get:
KL: 19.0, 13.0, 3.1, 0.7 MT: 15.0, 10.7, 3.0, 2.7 BW: 15.4, 6.6, 2.4, 1.1 Composite: 49.4, 30.3, 8.5, 4.5
WS: 16.7, 8.0, 2.8, 0.4 MP: 13.9, 7.3, 1.7, 2.1 SS: 6.3, 8.8, 0.5, 4.3 Composite: 36.9, 24.8, 5.0, 6.8
So aside from blocks, which this year's crew owns by a margin of 2.3 per game, those three (or two plus Cheatham, if he elbows his way into the "Big 3") would need to add 12.5 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game to equal the 40-minute equivalent of the Kawhi-Malcom-Billy troika. It's doable, but not an easy task.

What could happen in my eyes, I think it could be about even
Malik Pope>Kawhi Leonard Zylan Cheatham=Billy White Skylar Spencer<Malcolm Thomas
I would say this. The combination of Hemsley and Shepard is better potential then DJ gay and Chase Tapley so if that big 3 can live up to the expectations, next years team can be really really good.

I was thinking of the 10-11 team today. That team was awesome. That UCONN loss is still painful. If we didn't have T's called on us we probably would of won and maybe won it all that year (assuming we got past AZ). We would of beaten UK and Butler easy in the Final 4. Ugh.
