Wanted to share this video I put together of one of our favorites, Malik Pope. It's unfortunate that our season ended a bit earlier than we would've liked, but at least we have this to look forward to next year. It's gonna be another exciting year on the Mesa. Enjoy!

I'm sure he already knows the offense is going to run through him. That being said, we're all very excited for next season. His game is stratospheric. I love watching him leading a transition break. Dude plays with authority. He's got "it"...whatever that means.
Can't wait! - Bart Scott

This is going to be Malik Pope's first summer where he's working on his game and not doing rehab in 3 years. That's a scary thought. An aggressive Malik Pope is going to be very very hard to stop.

Enjoy I'm pretty sure I just watched every single shot made by Malik this season. Oh well, it gets me excited for next season...

you can really see what his role was on the offense. an outside sniper. keeping in mind fisher was easing him back into basketball after injury, having him mostly outside makes sense.
next year I think we're going to see a guy who fills out his frame a little more. I'd love to see him breakdown some people off the dribble and post up on small guys.
his release seems pretty slow but since he's so tall nobody is blocking it. I'm pretty sure he'll need to shorten it when he plays pro.
I hope the rest of the team works on their jumpers cause they're going to get a lot of open when pope posts up and teams send double teams.

And next year he will have a twin! WS3 must be salivating at the chance to be lobbing passes to these guys for slams. Or, JH to the three of them.
ShowTime is coming to the mesa.

Was that every single shot he made this year? Not every single shot. There's a few missing, but that's too much footage to go through

Nice video. My goodness was he underutilized : / If Malik was underutilized then a lot of that is on him. Fisher's offense is designed to favor players that assert themselves offensively and feel comfortable isolating against their defender. Malik never truly got his legs under him this past year, he scored most of his points from behind the arc or in transition. I was honestly the most excited when I saw him score two point buckets, from a set offense, in the paint. That's going to determine whether or not he's one of the best players in the country next year. What do players say about Coach Fisher and staff time and time again? If you make a mistake, he's not going to pull you immediately, he's going to let you play. If Malik wanted to assert himself then he could have, he just didn't quit feel comfortable enough this year to take his opponents off the dribble, or back his man down. (again, with a few exceptions) We're never going to be a team that runs players through a series of 2,3,4 picks to get them an open shot. We have a few set plays designed to get him open looks, but for the most part, Malik is going to decide how many shots he wants to put up a game. This offense is why players like Billy White would score 25 points one game and then not even attempt a shot the next game. In large part it's up to them how much or how little they want to shoot. I'm sure we will run more plays away from the ball to get Malik matchups that favor him more so he can dribble drive or post up, but that won't be very difficult considering there may only be one person in the conference that can legitimately match up with him defensively-- Christian Wood. And if you want to say he deserved more minutes then I would point to the fact that he was a bad defender.

He's the most talented player we have ever had..but its going to have to be HIM who steps up and takes over. All of our great Aztecs the past 6 years have been bulldog, alpha mentality type guys. If he can be that...he might be the first top 10 NBA pick SDSU has had.
