Fresno State looks like a national power. Stanford looks like a Div.3 program.

Should be changed to "FBS" football fan map. I live in Montana & can attest that the fandom up here is all about the Grizzlies (UM) & the Bobcats (MSU) with the Griz holding about a 2/1 advantage. You don't see many Duck fans here. Likewise I doubt many people in the Dakotas are rooting for teams outside of their home schools.

No disrespect, but very few people follow FCS (unless of course you are a Grizzly fan). However, as a G5 school and SDSU fan I can relate. It seems Oregon has claimed Grizzly territory as their own when that is a false claim. There are folks around here, including the PAC 12, that claim USC & UCLA own San Diego. That is just a false claim. San Diego is Aztec Country!

San Diego State needs to continue its growth into recruiting and marketing the Inland Empire areas and the Imperial Valley areas IMO.
With all the basketball success and many recruits we get from the IE, it can really make a difference in many aspects.

Especially south of 52, it is Aztecs as the go-to. North County gets muddied. You should embrace and promote this, it's your hometown college football team.

How is San Diego "Aztec Country" when the best high school players in the county end up going to the PAC-12 (mainly USC) and the highest attended football game of the year is an opening act for fireworks? This country makes Zimbabwe look like Qatar.

In what western counties do those 2 schools not usually get the pick of the litter? The article isn't about recruiting its about the % of fans for a specific team by zip code. Consequently it shows quite clearly that when looking at SD, the Aztecs have the most fans, even if we still lose the best recruits. Nothing worse than an illiterate troll.

All our games are televised now and the Q is a dump so... It's funny that you ask the question like a fan wrote the article instead of the NYT...pretty sure they're neutral in all this. Maybe if you zoom in far enough you'll see the one Torero fan in SD.

Fresno State looks like a national power. Stanford looks like a Div.3 program. So does Cal. Look how strong, and dark the red is for Nebraska. Nothing in the whole state competes with them, and their die-hard fans! Wyoming looks pretty big also, but then what else do you have to do in those states besides go to your school's football games!

One of the best recruiting G5's as well. Perhaps you just enjoy being contrarian, but your notion that because a SD kid goes somewhere else actually means about as much as someone saying we got a guy from LA, so USC can't claim LA. It's a rudimentary methodology, but does show representation, and a strong one, that SDSU is the primary college football team in our little corner of the world. Why does that bother you so much?

We already have SD, if we can make an access bowl or two I would expect the black area in SoCal to double in size in short order. One thing cali can produce in spades is bandwagon fans...cough, SDFF, cough.
