His Lawndale team will be playing in the Div II State playoffs tonight at 7PM at La Costa Canyon. Plenty of seating on the visitor side I am sure.

Saw him lose to Torrey Pines this year, Torrey Pines didn't start a guy over 6'3.
Lawdale has two 6'9 D1 players, coaching is everything in highschool, he is a raw canvas, think DeShawn Stevens.

Somebody take him some cookies, the Buddah could stand to add a few lbs.

Believe his 6'9" team mate is C. Metu ( sp ) rated about #45 , who gets most of the shots on the team, recruited by T. Bland to USC . Agree could be a learning year for BJ in 2015-16 ,would be interested if he gets more time at the 5 or 4 position ? We have both SS/ AC back for 1 more year at the 5/C . ZC comes in at the 4/PF . Would guess MP at the 3/SF . not sure what WS decides to do, go pro or come back - decision maybe end of April ? not sure when guys have to declare for NBA ?

Lawndale defeated La Costa Canyon, 60-46. Chimezie Metu scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds. D'lano Beckles added 13 points. I didn't see numbers on Jones.

Jones is 6"9" 190 and Malik Pope 6"10' 210, both should add about 20 pounds over the next 2 years........should spend the summer in the weight room.....another 10 pounds for Shep would be some kinda nice also!

Went to the game vs LCC last night. Metu is awesome, USC is really getting a player. He has handles, a beautiful jumper (hit two beautiful threes), and takes it strong to the rack with bounce... plus he's unselfish. BJ is going to be a project... extremely raw but has a nice athleticism and agility for his size. Some people think he'll be like DeShawn Stephens but I think he's a lot more raw then Stephens (although Stephens came here as a JR so that could be why). He had 4 points (was 2/2 from the FT line with a pretty nice stroke, and had a dunk which displayed his athletic ability) and I'd guess maybe 7 rebounds. Definitely was overshadowed by Metu, he's not a go-to guy on the team.
I noticed one of his biggest things to work on is he fades away from the bucket on shots when he catches it in the low post. He was being guarded by a guy who was 6'5 but thick as a bull and was being incredibly physical with him so maybe that's why. It was a hell of a fun game to watch though, I'm glad I went.
Looks like he has good potential after he develops more. I also saw coach Hut there

So Aztecs have SS/AC at the 5/C . At the forwards Malik , Zylan , maybe Winston , DA . So do we bring up the red shirt idea if all the guys come back or if Aztecs also add a Grad transfer , to give him the opportunity to add some weight and chance to learn the system ,if he is a project ? We should know a lot more by the end of April .

Sounds like he may not see any (significant) playing time until junior year?

Metu is perhaps Kentucky 2nd line worthy or a very small hair below. The observation of Jones being more raw than Deshaun is a very good one. Playing time will be tough to come by.

Again, Because of the JAM center Jones should be able to accelerate his offensive game.

I know we offered Metu, did we lose any chance when Tony Bland went to U$C? Any inside info? just curious.

Would seriously guess that T. Bland and the other coaches from the LA area for USC, are able to do a very good job of recruiting the LA area/AAU .plus getting better. Believe they also recruited the very good PG this year 2014 ,was it J Mac ? We may not want to admit it but USC has two higher recruits then SDSU. Metu #47 and Boatwright #57 ( from Sun Valley ) Aztecs have JH #74 and BJ #101 . USC stresses a run and gun system , show time . We seem to be known for defense . Recruits are attracted to schools that play a style they like .

Recruits are attracted to schools that play a style they like . From the LA Daily News: “We have a plan for the future and we’re going to stick to it,” Enfield said. But is Enfield’s plan going to bring success? If you want to believe him, it is important to note the Trojans are the fourth-youngest team in the nation and without a senior. Enfield believes two incoming recruits will make USC better next season. USC signed forwards Bennie Boatwright of Sun Valley Village Christian and Chimezie Metu of Lawndale in November. Boatwright is ranked the 57th-best player in the nation by Rivals.com, while Metu is expected to provide frontcourt depth. To say either will transform the Trojans seems a stretch, however, especially when you consider the limited impact of this year’s class despite being ranked No. 16 by ESPN. Freshman point guard Jordan McLaughlin was given the retired number of former USC All-American and four-time NBA champion Bill Sharman. But there are some doubts within the program whether McLaughlin is a true point guard at the college level. He is shooting 35 percent this season. Ironically, USC’s two Pac-12 victories came when McLaughlin was hurt.

Any player with aspirations of developing his offensive basketball takes one look at Aztec basketball abortions like Wyoming the other night and says 'No frigging way am I playing with those O-tards." So we are forced to continue getting half a basketball player, perhaps a 1/3, in young Brodricks' case, players with one skill set out of 5 and some potential. Yay. Another project player.
