To the fans on AMesa who have perspective and can be simultaneously disappointed and proud, thank you for remaining the voice of reason on an ever increasingly cynical, nasty, and distasteful forum.
To those who have meltdowns after we take tough Ls, just calm down. Disappointment is okay, but there is no need for the sky to fall every time we lose. If our team or our coaching staff were like that, we'd be toast. The other day Fisher called out UNM for having "spoiled" fans - don't be them. Don't be so spoiled you don't appreciate a "Co"-Championship. Don't be so spoiled you can't enjoy 20 wins and a comfortable tourney birth. Don't be so spoiled you don't take a step back and realize how nice it is that 7 years ago we were ecstatic with an NIT win and now we don't even sweat out Selection Sunday.
To those who, every game, have not one word to say until something goes wrong... Who take sadistic pleasure in pummeling players and coaches after a game... Please look in a mirror and evaluate why you watch college sports and why you decide to post publicly about them. Before hitting post, ask yourself whether you'd say that sentence(s) to a player's or coach's face. Often times you wouldn't, and if you did you'd be punched in the nose. I understand why trolls say these things, but if you truly are a fan - which I know some of you are - just pause a moment for self-evaluation... Are you really mad at this team for "lack of effort" or "bad coaching" or "being pathetic" or whatever BS you come up with? Or has SDSU basketball become one of the positive things in your life, that gives you a couple hours of real fun twice a week and endless banter to talk about? That's what it is for me, and if you can't stick with kids that decided to come to our school, play for our coach, and represent YOU even when they lose a game, then why even bother? Hate to break it to you, we won't win them all, so take the good with the bad and stop being so weak. If you were a player, coach wouldn't put you in with some of the attitude you show. And then some have the nerve to even criticize Shep's attitude or AQ's hustle... It's pathetic. If you were a coach, you'd be worse than Dave Rice.
It's better than apathy, I know. But there is a difference between respectful criticism and critique, and tacky trash talk. Some of you know the difference and just like the attention the later brings you... But for those that actually care about being good fans, and even more importantly, good people - please try to understand the difference better and think before you hit post. This isn't your living room, what you post here is read by recruits, parents, players, coaches, media, etc. and has an impact on the perception of our fan base as a whole. The loudest of us become a personification of everyone, and if you choose to be the loudest of us, FFS act accordingly and with some human decency.
To those trolls from other schools - you've been doing well this season. Not enough people recognize who you are anymore, but damn it must hurt to be so bad this year. That makes me happy too - even when we lose to BSU at home, it could always be worse. We could be Vegas or New Mexico.
Oh hey look, the #1 seed with a 41 game home winning streak just went down to BYU, a team we already beat.

I would think that is the type of attitude everyone would want around here. Just ask the Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina and Kansas fans the same question. Not honestly saying we're in their class tradition wise, but I would hope we all would expect to achieve some of the success they have obtained. No disrespect, but I don't honestly believe your post would resonate with them.

No disrespect, but I don't honestly believe your post would resonate with them. I don't disagree that it is a function of expectation. But those expectations were created by the same fans who disparage players after every loss but are nowhere to be found during win streaks, not by the players or coaches. The fact is, there are many on the board who expect to have the best Aztec basketball season ever, or the season is a failure. That is bold-faced stupidity, is unfair to their own emotions, and is unfair to our current student athletes when they decide to convert those disappointments into trash talk and effort-critique from a recliner. And the worst part is, that the season isn't over! Not only do they trash talk from a recliner, they then give up on the team! You're right, we're not a blue blood. We've had two Sweet 16's in our history, in the last four years. That's it. And people are acting like losing there again would be a disappointment and simultaneously giving up even wanting to get that far. I guarantee the Dukes and Kansas' of the world don't give up. Their expectations also are grounded in history.

It's easier to talk disparagingly about random meth-head fans of New Mexico and the idiot fans of UNLV than to notice that all fans bases have good and bad individuals (and also a small handful who truly know about a particular sport and most of the others who just think they do).
We've been spoiled with success, particularly at home, and sometimes the better team gets upset. Come the second or third round of the NCAA's we'll be on the other side of the proverbial coin hoping that the underdog prevails over the higher seeded team on that particular night.

Not all Aztec fans are whiny low life douchebags who live vicariously through the success of others. I thank God that our fine student athletes and staff members don't take on those same characteristics. Win, lose, or tie, I couldn't be more proud to have an outstanding group people representing my hometown, as well as the University.
Finish strong Aztecs!

Not at all....reading some your comments from other posts,,,,,,seems you need may need a hug(?). Just saying... AZTECS! Eh, I'm good, just disappointed much more by our "fans" than our team. Our team has heart, our "fans" lack fortitude. I'm a bit sad because many will never get the punch in the nose they deserve, and games are public so they'll still be allowed to watch the team after they run their mouth.

It has been a very long time since we lost a game like tonight's, in fact it wasn't that long ago when we expected our guys to fall apart as the end of the game drew near. There is lots of basketball left, and I can't wait to watch my guys play again. Boise State is a real good team with a couple of great players. It is likely that they will have the MVP, top coach and best newcomer.

The expectation of the men's basketball team is only going to increase as more fans become invested financially with the team.

Why is it that people can never say anything negative about the team without being labeled a troll and attacked? People's expectations have been raised and they feel like the team, and a few players in particular, have not lived up to the hype and expectations. We had a chance to make a statement with a win tonight and instead got punched in the nose at home. Not sure why it is so wrong to be pissed about that.

Just have seen the meltdowns and disgusting behavior some around here show when things don't quite go their way. My post was sky is falling? Obviously this is the first time you've read the board after a loss this season. I don't care about frustration or letting off some steam, it's just pretty sad when grown ass men take to a message board from their living room couch to attack the kids that have chosen to represent us. It isn't a new thing by any means, and it will continue to go on. All I want to do is let people know that their writing is read by people attached to the program, and to think about whether they'd want Mark Fisher, or Polee's dad, or Aqeel's mom, or Jeremy Hemsley to read some of their "steam". I know for a fact most would be FAR too cowardly to tell 6'8" 220 Winston Shepard that his play was pathetic and gutless to his face.
