I'm surprised this site was never mentioned before in the past 12 years of stadium searches. Going to be hot out there on game day.

May have to put a lid on the stadium. Lots of flat land. Freeway access 67/52/8 Trolley stop close cheaper land Not my favorite for a site but another option.

Back when, I thought the Kearny Mesa site where General Dynamics abandoned ship would have been a prime location for a stadium. Centrally located in the county, good freeway access, a private airport next door, etc.
Was this option ever put on the table?

There is really only two option for the Chargers at this time, Mission Valley and/or Chula Vista (former site of Power Plant). The Chula Vista Power plant was torn down two years ago and is sitting on 100+ acres of vacant beach front property with trolley and freeway access. The Spanos are looking at making good $$ so Chula Vista would be the best place for redevelopment. The Spanos would be able to buy all those run down apartments across the freeway on Woodlawn and Oaklawn and turned them into nice looking condos with ocean view. Unfortunately, Chula Vista would be an inconvenience for their North County, OC, and Riverside fan base. But then again its only 8 games a year.
Logical sense for Chargers fans to travel would be Escondido ( I-15 and 78) and/or better yet the under utilized nursery off Governor Dr and 805. But don't know if those properties are available at this time.

I think the Chargers are looking for free land around the stadium so they can control restaurants, hotels, housing, and other money making schemes. Ideally the Chargers would want the Mission Valley site for free to redevelop but that land is too valuable.

Won't these A-holes just leave already?
The Chargers leaving puts SDSU in a position to put up or shut up. We cannot make it to the next level as a program without a stadium designed for a college team.

If so, ... the Chargers will not get much of what they want out of that site in terms of private development -- especially when you look at the Port master plan for the area.

I like it. I still miss the speedway though, such a shame it was closed to make way for more hangers at the airport, but never happened. Site won't need as much environmental reviews as downtown or Qualcomm. Weather will be warmer, but Qualcomm doesn't get some amazing ocean breeze anyway, 100 degree games there too.

Not really, I think moving outside the two spots they are looking at now is better for everyone. The Q and downtown sites will be tied up in courts and environmental reviews for a decade. The convention center and hotels aren't jumping at the idea either for financing. Long term better to have a new sports arena downtown as the master plan shows. Looking to other areas in San Diego County, smart move and better leverage to get free land out of it.

Nah, the old GD/Convair site has been completely reoccupied and/or built up for quite some time. Now the Montgomery Field site would have room, if they were to close that airport, but traffic would likely be a nightmare. Not that it isn't already a nightmare in MV for Charger games.

El Cajon fits Spanos and his Trust Fund financed "kids" perfectly!

I am still for Qualcomm. The El Cajon idea has some merit. It has all the access that you could want. A bit farther from SDSU than Qualcomm but would work. I still like Qualcomm either way. If the Chargers bolt or not.

If there's a more protracted, drawn out discussion with out results than the Charger stadium it's the Chula Vista Bayfront. That's a conversation that's lasted at least 40 years. I'm sure something will happen any day now.

How? Because some independent person or group came up with an idea outside the box. You're the one who is desperate that you have to badmouth someone else's idea. Your bias since you live in LA is so obvious.
