Coach Long said that they will cut down to 3 QBs by the end of spring practice.
It seems like it's between JRod and Smith for starter and #2, although I have no idea which one will come out on top. The 3rd QB position seems wide open, and could have implications for future years.
So who do you think finishes spring ball 1/2/3?

Just curious, but when is the last time SDSU has had transfers from TWO power conference schools battling for the starting QB spot? In one, we have a senior QB with plenty of game time experience in the SEC (but has had injury problems in the past), and the other is highly-touted, but unproven, in the Pac-12. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out and who emerges as the starter

If Bawden doesn't pan out at QB, I'd put him at LB. He's a big kid. Oldie Out

Seems easy JRod, Smith, Chapman, redshirt bawden Smith - Senior Rodriques - Junior Wood - Junior Bawden - Sophomore Chapman - Freshman (redshirt) Agnew - True Freshman (almost certain redshirt?) Bawden beat out Chapman last year for the number 2 spot, but certainly didn't "seize the day" when he had his chance against Fresno. If Chapman earns the 3 spot this year ahead of Bawden, then Bawden and Wood seem to be "odd man out". I dunno if redshirting Bawden back into Chapman's class does anything positive for Chapman, Bawden or the team as a whole. This is especially true if Agnew pans out. I think that the pressure is on Wood and Bawden to earn the 3 spot. If they don't get the 3rd spot my guess is that Wood will transfer and Bawden might be moved, a la Favreau, to another position. But, I certainly wouldn't put any money on it. It will be very interesting to watch. Go Aztecs!

Although you really never know "until the light goes on", I think Chapman has more upside but was also more raw during fall camp & was better suited to RS. Now that he has, and assuming he's developed as anticipated, I think he jumps Bawdin on the list. What we do with Bawdin is tough to figure out, but I'm hoping he RS's & then comes back & pressures Chapman as the #2 in '16. However, if Agnew looks really good this spring, I would see Bawdin either transferring or switching positions.
Agree, it's going to be very interesting.

I think Angew is the real deal simply based on pedigree. When the last six QBs from your HS start at the college level and all of them FBS, going 5-1 in their debuts, you have a QB factory.
That and he is the exact type of QB recruited for the offense Horton is looking to run. That being said he'll RS this season.

I remember everyone thought Bawden was going to be the $hit and he tanked vs. Fresno, not what everyone expected. Along comes JR and everyone's posting he's the man for the next 2 yrs. Now we get this ringer from Kentucky and he's suddenly the man. I read this incoming freshman Agnew is going to be the bomb just because of the previous 6 QB's out of his high school go D-1? Really? Let it play out people.

The silent majority is rooting for Spiro. If he didn't get the job he may refer to the coaches as "nattering nabobs of negativism." But, then ol' AF1 dates himself. Seriously, I look for some early reports from practice as who looks like Da' Man. I think Mr. Kentucky is going to be the guy.

I'm betting Smith is the guy. He started a lot of games at KY and his interception ratio (the most important stat for a QB) was ridiculously low.
I wouldn't be shocked to see a two headed monster at QB where JR was brought in on plays to run some plays to utilize his feet (zone read) and get him reps for next year.

Believe Rocky said that this week and next week all QB's will get reps. Starting Week 3 ,they will narrow it down to 3 QB's taking most of the reps . Do not think Agnew is in school yet . , there was a walk on QB last year ,that also red shirted . Wood , Bawden and Agnew can all red shirt , if they choose to stay . Chapman has already red shirted ,so has to use 1 of his 4 years or transfers out .

I can't recall the last QB we had who threw with consistent accuracy. Maybe Katz, although we didn't see enough of him. The mental part can be coached, but if you can't hit a receiver in stride I doubt you'd get much better even with coaching. Lindley was a prime example and he's no dummy.

I've always thought JR would be the man for us. That hasn't changed with any of the new QBs. I was never sold on Smith other than a player/coach and an experienced, proven QB2. And you forgot the other part of why I like Angew. The fact he's a mobile QB, who can run the spread and throw the ball well. But, let's omit that part of my time stamped post so you can sit on your throne of smugness. But, let’s only discuss things related to Aztec football only you approve of. So what is that list so we don’t have to laugh at you again? What about things AZtough would like to discuss on Aztec Mesa? Would that be a topic you can put down your crown and scepter to talk to us commoners?

Well, maybe not a BIG star, but he did have 11 TD passes. And 29 other times he handed the ball off to their tailback for TDs.
