I agree. Iowa State is an example.

BYU may "intend" on joining a P5 conference, but the better question is whether a P5 conference "intends" on extending an invitation to them.

We'll know when BYU is serious about P5 membership when they start playing games on Sundays ... something both the Pac-12 and Big-12 do in most sports. I don't think either conference is interested in a football only member, and I don't think BYU is looking for partial membership/ money.

Don't get too upset. That article is from a newspaper with the credibility of the Volkischer Beobachter.

it has been over 3 months since the final 4 for College football teams were selected . B12 was shut out . Has there been any talk from their conference about adding teams NO . their goal to get at least one team in for the next time . Maybe change their schedule to include a game between top two teams at the end of the season,or select a champion ,not co champs, So I don't care how many times an AD says we are ready to join a P5 school . it is not going to happen until the Conference decides it wants to expand , after next year depends what happens or not at all . Do not know the pay out the B12 got last year from all the Bowls that were shared among 10 teams not 12 or 14 . Adding teams is strictly decided on if the networks are willing to add more money and then who they see as an expanded market be it BYU land or say SOCAL for SDSU the PAC will not add SDSU because it helps us recruit , elevates us to their level, something PAC schools do not want . Same thing for BYU , not going to happen as Utah , Colorado and others still hold advantage over them on recruiting , some they lose if they let BYU in . The Texas schools in B12 ,will block Houston and SMU .
So BYU can huff and puff , football coach , AD or even President of BYU / or even Romney, if B12 does not want to expand then it is not going to happen . If things change then BYU would be on their list but on the B12 's terms .

SDSU a better partner than Houston, and WAY better than FresNO We have burned all of our bridges in regards to BYU. They would never look to partner with us to get into P5 conference.

I think BYU's biggest issue is their internal tug o' war between the church's hierarchy and athletics. The church is insistent on having BYU-TV playing a role wherever they go in athletics, but the athletic side wants to downplay it because it would hamper any invite. And yes not playing sports on Sunday would be a factor, but I don't think that in itself is a deal breaker. IMO it's the combined BYU-TV and Sunday issue which makes them too high maintenance to accept.

My prediction is that the Big 12 expands in 2 years and adds 2 in the East & two in the West. BYU is in & the final West team comes down to SDSU & Boise. It would be nice if they went East for one team (travel partner for West Virginia) & three teams in the West (SDSU, BYU & BSU) but I'm not sure they would do that! So football needs to win BIG NOW!! Just my opinion & I'm sticking to it!!

The only issue is MONEY for B12 . Unless they want to expand they are not going to do it . If they do ,it is on their terms not BYU or any one else's . B12 has the leverage. If they want to add both BYU and SDSU , it is the B12 's choice not any school who the two will be . if B12 wants to play on Sundays ( or the networks ) then a school decides if they are open to it or not . We have over 50 pages of posts about expansion (here we go again), but until the B12 wants to look at it , it is not going to happen .

Hard to see BYU doing better than the AAC right now. If Texas and Oklahoma were to leave the Big 12 (probably for the Pac-12), then they'd be a logical choice for that league.

Room for another Texas based school opened up when TA&M joined the SEC (as well as Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado also leaving) ... 4 of the 10 members of the Big-12 are in Texas now, (TX, TT, Baylor & TCU). It was a bit different for the Big 12 to invite TCU and WVU to join when they were down to 8 members and looking at dissolution with the Pac-10 trying to get Texas and Oklahoma to defect also. The Big-12 is in a different situation now, and aren't in need "conference saving" additions, but rather "conference advancing" additions which SMU & Houston are not well positioned for
