Fabiani says it needs to be a 2/3rds vote and not a Infrastructure district requiring just 55% approval. He says an infrastructure vote is not really related to stadiums and wouldn't really apply and would be challenged by oppponents (paraphrasing). The online chat with his responses deleted responses quickly but I hope to get the chat in its entirety soon. Here is one quote I did grab regarding SDSU's involvement in getting a Q site stadium done: "SDSU leadership has always been very supportive, but the state university system is suffering from severe financial constraints, and we cannot rightly expect that system to contribute significantly to a stadium." Good job Hirshman and Sterk! SDSU is gonna come out of this smelling like a rose!!! Outstanding...

I was blown away by how negative Fabiani was on the chat. It should be said that while he was totally negative he is a silver tongued devil and sounded nice and super polite while shooting down every suggestion.

My first thought was to be concerned about SDSU options due to financial constraints. How do you see they will come out smelling like a rose?

I say that because Fabiani is the king of making individuals or organizations scapegoats as to why they can't get a stadium deal done. I trust about every third word that comes out of Fabiani's mouth but sure am glad he isn't throwing SDSU under the bus on their way to LA.

There is no reason to trust any word that comes out of Fabiani's mouth. He is a crisis control PR flack, not a problem solver - Clintons, Sultan of Brunei/Beverly Hills Hotel, now the Chargers. In fairness, we all should have seen the writing on the wall when the Spanoses hired him.

He is a slimy lawyer who has basically failed to make even average progress on his one task in a decade and a half. I can't stand Fabiani, it will be brutal to watch him gloat when the backroom deal happens and the taxpayers get stuck with the bill.

I heard from Carnac the Magnificent that Dean and Fabiani are just trying to stall any team movement until old man Spanos kicks the bucket and the team is sold off to pay the estate tax bill. Keeping the San Diego, LA, and San Antonio markets open and not being tied down to a long term lease means a higher selling price when that time comes. The current show is just an attempt to get the other owners to block the Rams.

Incorrect. Yet to be proved to YOU, perhaps. But you're not the administration's target audience. You can be as unwavering in your doubt as you want, though. But others have reached a different conclusion than you and have moved on from this point. Others ASSUME, I don't. I've worked directly with the admins long enough to know that if I were to assume anything, I'd assume the worst. When exactly have YOU worked with the admins in question?

Lots of discussion around town about the stadium being for "San Diego" not just the Chargers. I find it really interesting that even the local fish wrap hasn't drunk that Kool-aid. They have an entire section on their website now dedicated to this topic. The name of the section? "Chargers Stadium" www.utsandiego.com/news/chargers-stadium/Make no mistake, no one - not even the mayor - is thinking "what will happen to SDSU if the Chargers go away?" They are ONLY thinking about keeping the Chargers here. And so, any plan put in place or any deals cut will be of primary, secondary and tertiary benefit to the Chargers, and SDSU will, again, be a second class citizen in that discussion. The mayor is an Aztec and was on the Aztec Athletic Foundation Board when I was on it. He cares. As for SDSU being a 2nd class citizen, maybe if the AZTECS attendance was anything close to the Chargers we'd/they'd be more a priority.

First you say that State has a Tangible Plan for financing their own stadium etc.. at the Q site and here it says that they are suffering from severe financial constraints and "we" (Chargers) cannot rightly expect that system to contribute significantly to a stadium"....... Which is it? Who is lying? Which is it?

Just because State won't help, doesn't mean they can't help -- no one knows what they are being asked to do ... and at what cost.

The priority is saving the chargers, building a stadium for The Chargers. Don't kid yourself. None of them care what happens to us right now. If SDSU announced on Monday that it was shutting down the football program, would the city council pass a resolution trying to save it? Would the mayor form a task force to see how he could save The Aztecs? No. They wouldn't. Because the NFL is an ego boost for politicians and people who want to think their city is "big time". D1 football does not make a city big time, nor does it boost the egos of politicians, unless you are the governor of Alabama.

More $$$ and recognition w/ the NFL since it appears State isn't going to win the National Championship anytime soon. I don't know about the City Council as to how many are alums but most of the County reps are Aztecs.

CA Senator Marty Block (Chairman of Senate Education Financing Subcommittee) - Former SDSU professor of 26 years CA Assembly Member Shirley Weber - Current SDSU Professor SD Mayor Kevin Faulconer - SDSU Alum SD County Supervisor Ron Roberts - SDSU Alum SD County Supervisor Greg Cox - SDSU Alum SD County Supervisor Dianne Jacob - SDSU Alum SD City Council Member David Alvarez - SDSU Alum SDSU is extremely well connected at the State, City and County level. Where do you get more $$$ with the Chargers in San Diego? The Chargers economic impact on the city of San Diego is insignificant compared to San Diego State University. SDSU's economic impact to the city of San Diego is well over $2.5 billion/year. Not to mention the fact SDSU graduates over 7,000 highly skilled students every year; 60% of which stay in San Diego to become part of the skilled workforce. The Chargers have the economic impact of a small/medium department store. If you are just comparing the Chargers football team to the Aztecs football team then of course the Chargers bring in more money.

What I'm saying is, none of them care right now what happens to our football program. They really aren't saying "we need to keep the Chargers here because it will impact the Aztecs." They are saying "we need to keep the chargers here because it will impact my next election." In 13 years that we've been going through this, the only people talking about what might happen to the Aztecs should the Chargers leave are right here on this board. Now, when it becomes politically convenient to do so, the mayor has begun inserting "and the Aztecs" into his talking points. But the idea that anyone is selling this as anything other than a Chargers stadium that might have other uses is in complete denial of reality. And I will again point to the UT San Diego website's special section on this topic, titled "Chargers Stadium" www.utsandiego.com/news/chargers-stadium/

And I will again point to the UT San Diego website's special section on this topic, titled "Chargers Stadium" www.utsandiego.com/news/chargers-stadium/I don't disagree that the stadium issue is Charger-centric. The point that I was making is that SDSU has a significant economic impact on the city of San Diego in contrast to the insignificant economic impact of the Chargers. In addition, as I noted SDSU is extremely well connected to state, city and county politics. There have been multiple SDSU supporters touting a West Campus expansion @ the Q site going back to 2009 when Mayor Sanders (SDSU Alum) and President Weber proposed it initially. www.utsandiego.com/news/2009/aug/01/1n1qualcomm22273-sdsu-might-expand-campus-stadium-/2/?#article-copySenator Marty Block (former SDSU professor) has recently been very public about continuing the proposal and advocating for a smaller joint use stadium that the Aztec football team could play in. www.kusi.com/story/28228281/senator-proposes-qualcomm-be-used-by-san-diego-state-universitySDSU certainly has plans based on scenarios that will present themselves over the coming months. I am not privy to specifics but when the time comes for SDSU to make a move and make their intentions public they will do so.
