I like Texas players but why are we loading up on 2/no star (with no P5 offers) Texas recruits? Are there no 2/no star players (with no P5 offers) from California that want to play at SDSU?
Having so many Out of State recruits has to jack up scholarship cost because of out of state tuition.
I don't get the recruiting plan SDSU is following.
I guess we will see if it pans out in a few years.

2014 = 10-2 2015 = 13-0 Maybe some undiscovered (no star/2*) guys get playing time and then some higher ranked guys see opportunity to play. Dunno.
Amazed that USC can get 4* QBs to play 2nd fiddle for 4 yrs.

I think it really shouldn't matter what state a player comes from but how they play on the field . IMO you want guys that want to come to SDSU . Most CA guys want to go away to school or go to a PAC school . Yes guys in Texas first may want to go to a B12 or A &M , but after that they also may want to go play away from home . Texas is a hot bed for football , we picked up ( Coach Horton) some decent sized big boys for the OL and a couple of RB's, So we have 25% from Texas , bring them in with a warm welcome . If there were a lot of CA guys that are knocking on Rocky's door sure he would open it for them. Once a player puts on the red and black they are an Aztec and that's all that matters .

Perhaps because most of the best CA talent gets scooped up by USC, UCLA, and the pac12. Then you have the rest of the P5!

If our primadonas in San Diego want to go away, oh well, then Texas is the best next thing, welcomed to the Mesa and SDSU.
Without sounding sacrilegious, football in Texas is as popular as a religion. Some high school stadiums are bigger than some college stadiums.
Idaho Vandals kibbie dome 16,000
10 largest HS Stadiums in Texas, smallest 16,500, largest 23,000.

Rocky and Co. are tasked with finding sleepers and guys they can coach up.

That means there are many more guys there under the radar and not getting looks from the normal services. Time will tell.

I agree with your premise but there is one big difference, $$$$. I am not saying we should recruit lesser players but if players are equal, go with the ones that will cost less. Hope the extra costs are worth it. I trust the coaches but it is a big difference from years past when most if not all came from California.

You are talking about only 6 or 7 players . Get the best group you can on the field . Win a MW Championship and better bowl bid and it pays for it . the name of the game is getting better players and opening up the pipeline to one of the best states for HS football . Coach Horton is actually out there recruiting plus getting results- not sure how many of our previous OC 's were . I do not care how good of a coaching staff you have . More then half the battle for a winning team is decided by your recruiting . You need quality players , it is not the defense or offense you play but the execution of the players . Once they put on the Black and Red they are Aztecs . Do remember a RB #28 from the state of LA.

Who cares where they are from if they can play? Should they have passed on that # 28 (MF) referenced above?
Send Calvin back to Mizzou?

There's also a lot more small towns in Texas than there are in CA. Tons of FB talent spread across a huge area (much bigger than CA obviously). It would make sense that there are many more people going under the radar in Texas than in CA

Or to put it another way, I'd rather have a 2-star player from Texas who's used to playing before 8,000-12,000 fans than a 2-star kid from a California school who's used to playing in front of 500 people. As to the scholarship concern, I think that's valid too. However, Sterk must obviously be OK with it.

SDSU football is what it is. The program hasn't cracked the top 25 since most of the current recruits were born and obviously SDSU isn't a household name in the college football world. 5 star guys aren't coming here anytime soon. The best the Aztecs can hope for is a lot of the 2 & 3 star guys develop into great players and that the coaching staff implements a system which can occasionally take down one of the big programs.
That being said, if one of the QBs steps up and brings it next year, the Aztecs will probably have that long awaited breakout season. The pieces are in place with the defense, offensive line and running backs for success next year.

We would do great recruiting Nationally. UT has the largest budget. Not enough good players from TN .
We would not be D1 if we did not have a lower cost of recruiting and a lower cost of California tuition.
So we do have an advantage in this respect.

You are talking about only 6 or 7 players . Do remember a RB #28 from the state of LA. Marshall was different. He had Offers from Miami and Nebraska. The out of state kids committing to SDSU now are 2/no star players with no P5 offers.
