I would like to see two things on offense next season: 1) more passes to the tight ends. Use them like when Gavin Escobar was here. 2) Expand the running back rotation. When Pumphrey needs a breather, Chase Price will still be the main backup, but allow Stamps and Penny to have more than just a few appearances at running back too

I still think they ought to try Penny at WR. I think he could be great. He has too much talent to sit on the bench and watch Pumphrey and price do almost all the running.

He would be unstoppable in the slot. Could also pair him with a lager back (like Stamps) to throw off the D so they won't know if they are going to run a 2 back set (with Stamps at FB) or a 1 back set with Penny in the slot. USC did this with Bush and it was almost unstoppable.

thought at least one of the RB recruits is also a quality runner . Key is production the team gets from the OL . Control the line of scrimmage gives you the ability to do numerous things . if you don't , then options get limited quickly

If Adam Wood becomes our starter at QB, I'll be shocked. And we can forget about any chance of a 10-win season.
The writer also fails in giving so much attention to Larry Clark. Last I heard, he had been suspended for at least two and more likely six games so even assuming he even suits up again, he will be behind the 8(0) ball.
Starting QB: Rodrigues or Smith, with Bawden a long-shot
WR rotation: Holder, Mills and Judge supplemented by Hazeley and/or Clewis and/or Pitts and maybe even Bailey or Jackson by conference season
On the WRs, I'm hopeful that a change in position coaches might result in a big improvement for a couple of the heretofore disappointing players.

I don't think it's going out on a limb to predict that the upgrades in the coaching office (Hauck, Horton, McGarry) will pay some immediate dividends - as well as getting some Aztec feet in the door of future prospects.

There's no mention of Stamps at running back. I thought he was Rocky's boy?

The article is written by an SDSU journalism student who probably doesn't have any particular access to the coaching staff.
I mean, Adam Wood? A walk-on with stats at Mr. Diablo CC no better than Quinn Kaehler's is going to beat out a 4-star guy with two years of experience as a backup at Oregon and a year in our system as well as another guy who played three years at an SEC school? Not unless the two are unhealthy. Even then, he would also have to beat out two scholarship guys with a year of experience in our system plus another walk-on who was on campus all of last year. So my guess is the Vegas odds on Wood becoming the starter would be at least 25-1.

At this point, I'll take any QB in an Aztec uniform who can complete a pass (without throwing an INT) and manage the offense. If we can get two guys who can do this, we should be in good shape.

the key as always is the battle for the QB spot . then after Spring Ball we start to see at numerous colleges what players stay and who transfers . It is very good to have some of the transfers in early to play in the Spring practices

What stands out is that even with the departure of QK, we've gone from three QBs to six. If anyone thinks the coaching staff is enamored with Jake Rodrigues, they should think again. Also of interest is the author's conjecture that Pearce Slater is good enough to move from RT to the all important LT position. A fantasy? We shall see in March. That position is crucial to the continuation of our running game success. Finally, it appears the author was not aware of the numerous JC transfers when this was penned. See the punting paragraph as well as WRs.

See the punting paragraph as well as WRs. I have no idea how the staff feels about Rodrigues. I do think that even if they love the kid they are doing the right thing by stacking the position. You cannot put all your eggs into one basket at the most critical position on the field. Bawden is not ready and, quite frankly, might never be the starter. His mechanics were awful. I don't care who wins the job, just that they kick ass when they get in there! I have to admit though, I would be a bit surprised if a guy w/ Rodrigues' resume doesn't win the job.
