Is anyone else just as surprised as me that SDSU has 4 (out of 5) offensive linemen commits that are 300+ lbs? In the last decade it seems like the Aztecs were always getting kids in the 250-290 range to beef up, with the occasional 300+ pounder of Nico Siragusa or Pearce Slater in there. But in the same recruiting period, 4 of them well over 300 lbs...and the lightest of the 5 being Nick Gerhard at 285 lbs? Let's not forget too, there was nervousness in this message board that it was taking quite awhile for SDSU to have its first offensive lineman commit this class...and now we have FIVE of them. Let's hope now none of them decommit and that they all qualify...it would be quite a sight to see those Himalaya-sized guys pushing/knocking aside opposing players
Signed LOI: Ryan Pope (6'7 and 320 lbs)
Commits: Terrell Battle (6'5 and 310 lbs), Nick Gerhard (6'5 and 285 lbs), Jordan Murray (6'8 and 340 lbs), William Tuihalamaka (6'5 and 350 lbs)

First give them a road map to coach Adam Hall's office / gym . Also believe they have increased the meals allotted for the athletes.

2014 = 10-2 2015 = 13-0
A good OLine is VERY instrumental in acquiring a high caliber QB. No decent parent or mentor will risk a NFL potential QB getting mauled for 4 years behind a weak OLine.

Quality QB's are a priority . Then you better have a good OL that can make all your skill players look better . Time for the QB to throw , blocks for all the backs and time for the WR's to get open . Can make a decent QB much better and same with the others. . Also helps you control the ball , avoiding 3 and outs and less time for the D on the field. The line that controls the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball ,usually ends up winning the game .

The casual fan sees 300 and 300+ and 300++ as something positive. With that kind of weight, you damn well better be athletic. In fact, you better be a "dancing bear" as our senior Pearce Slater, for example, has seemed to have turned out to be. Nothing worse than a slow footed, over sized OL being beaten and seeing the QB sacked by a more athletic DL or LB. So, let's hope these new dudes are really players. I think at the very least, Rocky and Co. thinks they can be after a winter with Adam Hall and a spring with Mike Schmidt. By the way, interesting that Coach Schmidt is no longer getting trashed on this forum as he was last fall and summer. Perhaps he is not as inept as the Casual's once thought after the way we proved we could run the ball in 2015. Again, what an interesting next several months it will be as the all important OL for 2015 comes together. I would not be surprised if one or more of last year's starters are supplanted by superior talent.

Well I think William needs to get down to 325 or so but the rest are at pretty good weights,given their height. WE averaged 314 this year and that was with a 285 pound center.

Something interesting to find out would be if there is a significant correlation between the number of sacks allowed by an offensive line with their weights (ex. does the heavier the offensive line = fewer sacks?). Of course, having a mobile or a stiff QB also would play a factor into it.
So for example, how did the Aztec O-line last year, which stephen posted averaged 314 lbs, perform in preventing sacks compared to league rivals with heavier or lighter offensive lines?

When is Coach Hall allowed to work with the players . Would guess the whole staff can work with all returning players and early enrollees this Spring. For Fall 2015 recruits is it the summer, do they need to be enrolled in summer school or just enrolled in fall semester . Little doubt the height and weight of recruits keeps getting bigger . Taller guys should be able to carry more weight but also depends on if you also have the strength in your arms and legs rather then just weight around your middle . Need good quick feet and good technique . Look at the size of the best Charger OL - King Dunlap over 6'7" . Flucker came in as an RT but they may move him to guard because guys go around him , he can run block but trouble on pass protection.

Our OL has gotten so much bigger since Hoke took over. I remember seeing Boise come in here and they looked absolutely enormous compared to us. I think that was Hoke's 1st year or something, and then 2 or 3 years ago we played them again and we were a similar size. Recruiting has improved

Hoke felt we were woefully weak in the trenches. So he recruited more beef and hogs.

You need speed , size and execution on both sides of the ball for both your OL and DL . Control the line of scrimmage, with a decent QB and you have a good opportunity to win most games . I do not know the size of the OL 's at BSU , CSU or the other top teams in the MW , or how many sacks, pressures , hurries each team gave up . Also the mobility of your QB to avoid a sack or toss it away - make good decisions .

Old timers remember the early 1980's Washington Redskins offensive line, affectionately known as "The Hogs". For those who don't remember, they were all the rage. To this day you still see fans dress up with pig noses. The Redskins won the Super Bowl in 1983.
Average weight of the Hogs' offensive linemen? 275 pounds! And these were grown men.
Now we have 17-year-olds who are 6'7" 320? WTF?

Add another big boy to the list: Daishawn Dixon at 6'5 and 335 lbs). The average weight of the offensive lineman commits is 323.3 lbs
