Believe he is going to visits the Zags this weekend (BYU ) , it is their senior night . Zags have usually been a team that uses their 5/C quite often in their offense . would guess they could have a good chance of getting the number #1 seed in the West , plus some prime time games during MM . They will also be playing the WCC tournament in Vegas , is it March 5-7 . He could also view the MW T and PAC T in Vegas the following week March 11-14 . so he could view most of the teams that entertained him a second time ,since he goes to school in Vegas .

Anyone know when he us expected to announce his decision? 4 visits in 5 weeks with his last one this Saturday @ Gonzaga...my assumption is that he's looking to make a decision soon based on that but just a guess. He said in a article between march and may. Thanks!

Since he lives in Las Vegas , may make sense for him to go watch the tournament games played there for PAC , WCC and MW in March .

Given the proximity to his g/f, the high-level of success the Zags are enjoying this year, and the fact (as Stan said) they rely on more of a 'traditional' 5, I think it is more likely than not he goes north.
Hopefully tho he does find his way to the MWCT so he can see how well Aztecs travel. In the end, IMO it's going to come down to Swag vs. Zag... hopefully Swag wins out. A deep tourney run (E8?) should help offset any advantage Gonzaga might have heading into the tourney as a 1-seed.

I don't put much stock in the GF thing. Everyone knows 16-year boy shouldn't choose a university based on where his high school girlfriend attends college, especially where the GF leaves for college a year before him.

What 16 year olds should do and what they actually do are often two very different things

Zags use three guys 6'10 or taller on their team , all 3 usually get 29 minutes per game , score in double figures and usually pull down 6 rebounds . Two of them are juniors this year , so will need replacement and the other is a freshman . Point is they regularly use their taller players in the offense . Senior night this Saturday when he is there . Then he will most likely attend the tournaments in Las Vegas in early March to watch SDSU , Zags, Utah , Lobos , Cal .... . Then digest where he is a good fit .

Chol is involved in offensive possessions & takes as many shots when on the floor as either Karnewski or Sabonis, but Sky is simply a completely different skillset. I'm sure Collins is aware of that, and the 1 SDSU game he was at SS actually had a great game.
Re: years, both teams - Zags & us, will basically have little on the roster at the 5, if that's his desired position. Sabonis will be in the pro's, and Karnewski will have graduated. We'll lose SS & AC, and will just have Jones (who doesn't appear to be an offensive force type of player). Obviously a key consideration will be who ELSE each team signs. Not sure who else Zags are after in this cycle but if they add a center.....

Gonzaga is actually pretty strong with another 2016 big we are after, Nolan Narrain

Believe they're also after Jayce Johnson, another 6-10 center.

While I do believe Gonzaga is the front runner right now, this article is also written by a zags fan.

He is going to be able to see what it is like during the winter season this weekend . Sure seems as though the family knows a lot about the Zags center/ power forwards by name , have done their homework . To see if he would also be a good fit there . He does seem to fit their mold . Believe his comment about the Aztecs seemed to infer that he was happily surprised to see that the Aztecs actually used our 5/C guys occasionally in the offense . Is important for the Aztecs to continue to use the guys inside if they hope to attract guys that can play either the 5 or 4 position , going forward . I do not know enough about BJ's game and potential at the 5/C .

In the WCC, no doubt that's true. But the atmosphere at The Kennel is as good as anywhere in the country (been to 3 games there) and the 3 things they emphasize more than anything to recruit (from a friend who recruited against them): 1) commitment to basketball - it's their football, and as a result everything about that program is first class, including the charter they fly to all games; 2) they aren't afraid to face the big boys & play big NC games on the road and/or in neutral sites (so big venues); 3) they're a lock to make the dance annually, so see the big time every year in March; and 4) they send kids to the pro's at virtually every position, and have been for years.
It'll be cold when they're there, but not bad. Mid 40's by day, so mid 30's in the evenings but clear & pretty. Given hoops is primarily an indoor sport I don't think Spokane's weather plays that much against them. Klay Thompson hated the NW, but always said if they practiced outdoors he may have rethought where he'd go, but they don't.
I think we can compete with them on many levels from a program perspective, especially once Zach ventures down & see's the practice facility (if its done before he makes his actual commitment), but there are several things they offer that we simply can't fiscally.
Going to be a tough battle to win but think Locale could definitely come into play if he thinks we develop bigs on the same level as Gonzaga & go dancing as often.

They don't seem to want to play us in a home and home, though. It's hard to predict how tough your schedule will be 2 or 3 years down the line, but they sure played nobody this year except Arizona, (and a home game against SMU).
Although the Zags have a very real chance to make their first Final Four this year, it's hard to imagine their program ever getting much better, while the SDSU program has a lot more upside, especially with the JAM Center opening.
I'm a Gonzaga fan though, (they are my second team after the Aztecs). I've been to games there also - I grew up in Spokane and went to high school at Gonzaga Prep, but we've lived here almost 30 years now. (And the weather there really sucks for 6 months a year.)

Gonzaga played 5 teams currently in the RPI top 50 in the OOC schedule, it is predicted to finish with the 12th OOC SOS.
And are you seriously acting like Gonzaga's program a legitimate final 4 threat, currently in top 5 of country, probably won't get better as if it is a knock against them?
I want him to choose SDSU, but if he chooses Gonzaga that would also make a lot of sense for him and I would wish him well.

To be clear: 12th OOC SOS.

Zags have a better schedule then us this year . We beat BYU in OT , They beat BYU at BYU . Also beat UCLA at UCLA , we lost to Arizona on neutral court , they lost to Arizona At Arizona in OT . They also beat SMU and Memphis . They will most likely be the top seed in the West , play in Seattle or Portland , so will have a "home Crowd". Then have Arizona and Utah in the region . they could slip up but have strong play down low and at the guards . Did benefit greatly from the two transfers from USC and Kentucky, also bring in the Euros . They use their taller guys ( 6 '10 " + ) often in the offense .

I'm rooting for another early out choke job by the highly ranked Zags in the NCAAs.
