Because we've been so close to the top 25, I've watched a whole lot of games of teams right ahead of or behind us. This weekend in particular, had so many games where the good teams were right on the verge of losing to unranked or even bad teams. But then, West Virginia or Dayton or Davidson or Georgetown or Northern Iowa or Tulsa or North Carolina or Arkansas or LSU or Wisconsin or Alabama or whoever hits a free throw or a 3 or gets a tip-in to pull it out. There are lots and lots of games left and lots of good teams are going to lose to bad teams. If JJ hits the free throws or he or AQ hit their 3's, we're one of those "Good" teams. I think, believe or hope we'll be fine because we will eventually find a way to win those games. Or not.

Do you believe we will win down the stretch when we're in tight games? I do. 90% of the time we do. What will take this team from good to special is if they make it 100% of the time.

I agree. We are a GOOD team but not a great team right now. To be GREAT we need to have that killer instinct, make fro shows and players like Shepard need to play up to their potential with the poise of upper classmen.

Do you consider us a good team if we are 30th best team in the country. I know a five years ago I would be ecstatic to be 30th best team. Today I am disappointed and am less inclined to consider such a team to be a good team.
However we have obvious and achievable improvement that could have us a top 15 team. If we hit FT at a 70% rate I suspect only game we would have lost is to Washington. We would be a top 10 and maybe a top 5 team.
If WS made better decisions. If SS could find a way to be a physical presence in the key. If we had consistent outside game maybe from Pipe but consistent and can be relied on by anyone. Any of these would get us easily into the top 25 and likely much higher than 25.
The defense is top 10 already. We need to improve somewhere to be a good team.

Jesus. I didn't have the level of optimism of some in regards to this season, but our team is playing better, and our freshmen are improving. This is what I hoped for, and I will be content to see the improvement continue. This still may be a better team when it really matters, March.

This team still has a lot of moving parts and by season's end will work itself into what it is. With all the talent and different options Fisher has at his disposal, its actually a very tough task in figuring who plays better together, which players compliment each other, etc. And then, really each player has to rise up within themselves and be assertive in their roles. so yeah, this team i wouldnt say is a great team yet. But man oh man these last few weeks, even the loss to CSU included, i think we've all seen some pretty great glimpses of what they CAN be. Hopefully by tournament time, they will have worked themselves out into one heck of a team.

Fisher was not happy about the inside D , when he moved Pope - who was incredible on offense - to the 4 position . Pope had trouble knowing when to double . So he felt we added offense but hurt the defense . As you mentioned needed Shepard to play the 4 . or 5 but coach seemed to have lost confidence in him or went with the hot shooting of Pope and Shrigley , who did not get a shot near the end , Ball was in the hands of the two fifth year seniors AQ ( 3 for 12 and 0-6 on threes , only 1 assist , and JJ ( who made some of his twisters earlier but not his Ft's or outside shot ) Problem we have this year as noted by Zeigler , we have no go to guy or guys at the end of the game for a shot or pass .
A lot of quality players , more then we have had in a long time but still a work in progress . Seems certain guys excel on defense but not so on offense and some guys that are shooting well but have problems on D . Every player is in consistent game to game . We have the talent but need to put it together . Fortunately we play in the MW , a weak conference.

When you are ahead you are quite happy without scoring, if the other team can't score. When behind that is a good way to lose. Pope is a better offensive choice than Shepard, that is why he played. Shepard is a better overall choice and will play when we are not well behind.

Not sure why no one else is pointing this out.

Maybe you should understand that Avila weighs 250 pounds, JJ, 215 and is at least an inch taller, Plus he's an excellent outside shooter. Who would you suggest have guard him? Chol got in immediate foul trouble and Spencer was basically ineffective, plus Pope failed to recognize his defensive responsibilities on the double team, so it was left to JJ, which is not a good one on one match up! And JJ was busy with scoring and rebounding himself.

In the stretch drive it is the better teams led by the guys who step and produce / execute that win the close games on both ends of the court . We did not at the end of the CSU game , think we have the talent but we will see . Key stretch are the 3 games AT BSU , then Slow Pokes to CSU , 3 games in 7 days. .2/8 through 8/14/
