Had a shot to escape with the W. If we play smart (feed/free the hot hands), take care of the ball (keep TOs sub-8) and convert at the charity stripe (>65%), we should be able to come away with the W at home.
With Pope's progression and a few players' stagnation/regression, an argument can be made that Pope should be in the starting lineup given this team's offensive woes and poor starts. I would like to see this lineup to kick-start the offense:
PG: AQ SG: Pope SF: Shep PF: JJ C: Sky
If Sky and Shep are having an off-night with their O along with boxing out, rebounds and TOs, Fish needs to shorten the leash and sub in Shrigs, Kell and Chol. Need to play DA for his D if players like Avila and Bejarano are going off. Everybody needs to bring their A game, especially on the road and the lack of consistency from our current starting lineup is disturbing. Fish needs to fuel internal competition where minutes are rewarded for effort and production as opposed to seniority.

Why keep WS in there? Shrigs playing better O and at least as good D. SS has almost disappeared and not sure who has worse hands SS or Chol? I could see JJ,MP,MS,AQ,TK

What exactly does Shepard bring to the table?

Shep can light it up so the key is monitor his body language. If he beats himself up, then Fish needs to get his head in the game. I'm more concerned with Shep and his play during crunchtime where he plays tight leading to TOs and missed FTs. As for Sky, he may not be an offensive threat, but he needs to utilize his big body better and box out and be our rebounding machine. Sky can score if he's fed the ball in close quarters and Shep's passing can facilitate the pick-n-rolls.

Good lineup. But I'd keep Shrigs instead of WS. Sky has regressed so to nullify that we need offense. Shep brings little offense other than just drawing fouls although he's called for charging a lot too.

I see Pope and Shrigs as interchangeable pieces i.e., perimeter threat. Shep can be hot (New Mexico) or cold so if he can cut to the rim or facilitate the inside-outside game, that'll give Pope an open look. We need Sky for tipoff and to protect the paint. Of course, lineups can be tweaked depending on matchups. Most teams start with a big body and close out games with guard play.

What exactly does Shepard bring to the table?[/quot Shep is the teams pt leader, 2nd in assts, 3rd in rebounds, 3rd in 3pt shots,...yet...let's just sit him because he does absolutely nothing for this team.

The game was lost when THE coaches forgot about Chol...with using him to defend Avila..Aztec ad a run...He scored easily...but..quit feeding him the ball inside....Live by the 3 and outside shooting....Die By It
The inside game was established....Why quit going to it....Why not keep feeding the beast?

Chol had foul trouble all game. That's probably why he wasn't in there.

For the most part, we did not play with a high basketball IQ and choked when it mattered most down the stretch.
Did not get the ball to the right guys at the end and missed free throws that would have won the game.
Further, if we got anything on D from our inside guys (Chol and Skylar), then we could have won.
Still, they were on fire throughout the game, especially from 3 and we still had a chance to win.
Our leadership did not come through, but we will learn from this one.

Just got done watching it here at 11:40 p.m. Not one thing to hang your head about. I like the growth. They had a great look at a W after yet another difficult trip.
To tell the truth, I thought they were already dead and buried at the 13:00 minute mark of the first half. The resilience is really remarkable. At 5-2 and the difficult stretch out of the way, and everybody else on top having their difficult stretches upcoming, we are going to win this regular season championship. We will. And then we're going to grind three opponents into submission in the MWCT. And then we're going to be the team nobody wants in their bracket for March Madness.

Starting lineup is fine as is: Pope has played 2 very good games in a row but we need to see bigger samples. As for the game? CSU made very tough 3s that they probably miss like 80% of time, some ridiculous step backs. Sometimes the game is as simple as one team having a fluke shooting day, that is what happened. SDSU's defense was really good except for a couple really bad winston breakdowns.

We don't know what to do because nobody has demonstrated an inkling of consistency. AQ lights it up one night, and can't hit $#!+ the next night. Shrigs, same thing. WSIII, Mr. Inconsistent himself. Kell. Pope is a question mark. JJO is probably our most consistent player, and that's not a good thing.

Must we always have one of these threads? Especially after a loss? It's always the same...."I'm proud of the guys, they played a great game, showed great resiliency, blah blah. But, here's what I think could be done to fix it." Why can't we call it like it was? CSU was the better team tonight, and there's not much a team can do when the other is shooting lights out like that (especially from the perimeter).

Agree with everything except that the more accurate question is whether we have to have at least half a dozen such threads. At least freshtodeath and the 76 guy didn't show up here, so there's that. ('Course ftd never shows up to any thread he didn't start himself.)

Our leadership did not come through, but we will learn from this one. That's the problem, this team lacks leadership. Our supposed leader was benched most of the second half and never returned. We're a team of talented supporting cast players. I'm still hoping that someone who takes the leadership role, can help us finish strong (see Xavier Thames). Oldie Out

Besides being poor shooters, we are NOT a quick team. Our press has been far less effective this season than last year.
