It's more frustrating that after every loss we always have to read posts of our "fans" bashing our own. Cant someone be objective in evaluating this team without being a basher? We can not point out anything for fear of Monty's wrath? Save it bro! This is objective? "Shep continues to be a disappointment. At what point do we just accept that he is average… and maybe I am giving him too much credit. Of course the loss to CSU is disappointing, but they shot lights out. Shep was 0-5 from the field and 2-4 from the line. I'm done… his minutes deserve to go elsewhere. Biggest disappointment this year..." I think Shepard did not play in the last 15 minutes of the game. Anyone know if he got in the doghouse with Fisher or was it just that Pope was playing so much better?

WInston made a very poor decision on that fast break. Its funny our team is so athletic and long that we can do things that most teams can't but we can't do things that almost any other team can, finish on a 3 on 1 fast break and make free throws. I think this is why this team is the most frustrating team to watch in recent memory since the Emerald Eight era. It is so good in some areas and just bad at some simple fundamentals.

All I can say is that we have seen both Pope and Chol getting much better as the season progresses. It seems clear to me that both will be getting more minutes at the expense of Winston and Sky and a few others. By early next year (or even sooner) Pope may be a much more reliable player than some of his upper classmen teammates. It has also been nice to see Shrigley's shooting finally emerging.

I actually think Pope will be the alpha for us next year. An offseason to make his offensive game that much better, but more importantly his defense. And his rebounding. He gets a lot due to length per minutes he played, but he also is the polar opposite of Josh Davis when it comes to crashing the boards after the other team misses. He could be the double-double machine Kawhi was with an outside shot (while here).

Alright I'll chime in. I went back and checked Yahoo sports 2012 recruiting. Winston was the #21 recruit. Of the other 20 guys rated above him, only 5 are still on their respective teams.
Yes, some left early for the NBA. But there's a bunch that have just disappeared.
You need guys like this in your program. You have to cherish them while they are around. Not every one can be Michael Jordan. But you need guys like this on your roster to be a high-major program.
I hope he hangs in there, gets his degree, and is there knocking on the door of the final four next year.

is that right? a 5 star with 2 points? guess he was reading his pre aztec press releases again. could you be more ignorant?!? someone can't have an off game? five star, four star, whatever... you have to be on every night? if your answer is 'yes', then you clearly don't understand sports, ANY sport, not just basketball. the ignorance of some of our "fans" is too much sometimes!!

I am Shepard critic because he is not playing up to his potential!
But, there is no way he should have been benched in the second half last night against Colorado State! Shepard is freaking 6'8, versatile and I believe he should have been given the opportunity to play in "crunch time!"
Any person that reads and/or make statements on this Board knows that it means more to be on the Court, on the Field, on the Ice in "crunch time" and when the "game is on the line!" For a starter not to be in the game during "crunch time" can affect one's ego, psychological and emotional state. I hope Shepard can bounce back, but last night benching, in my opinion, was the last straw.

Fish went with the five he thought would win the game for us. Winston was just playing with a deer in the headlights look all night. He has been given plenty of opportunities and it's up to him to suck it up and play tougher. We have seen enough of this finger roll crap when he can easily slam dunk. Fish knows how to coach and I trust his judgement. To say this is the last straw is off base IMO. He has to earn the right to play in crunch time.

Shep had a horrible night tonight... no question. He's also had some huge games for us. $#!t happens... On balance, he brings enough to the table to have earned a starting spot, but I suspect his leash is getting a bit shorter when he goes stone cold. Well put. Winston is a talented player, but by now it's clear that he his talent only goes so far. Compare him with Kawhi Leonard. Okay, that's probably an unfair comparison. Look, it's the guy's third year. He has some good games, yes, but he also has as many or more bad games, or at least mediocre ones. If he were going to emerge as one of the country's best players --- or at least one of the conference's best - - - he would have done it by now. WS may yet become a consistently above average player. Good grief, don't we all hope for that? But as of now he is inconsistent, infuriatingly so. It's there for all to see. AzWm

Did any of you see the WYO/UNM game? A lot of sloppy play, stupid turnovers on both sides. It's college ball. Shepard had an off night. He'll be fine.

hey uw photo coach...The point is....a coach developes the talent he recruits..I do not see this at SDSU.....try connecting the dots You mean like how a two star Chase Tapley went from role player to stud? Or how Al Faux went from walk-on to a big shot, clutch player for us? How about 2 star DJ Gay who came to SDSU as a SG? Or zero star Jamaal Franklin. Yeah...clearly zero examples of that happening here on the Mesa.

All this focus on looking for a scapegoat is pathetic and quite typical of a fan base that still suffers a "wannabe" complex.
Any of these boys you want to crucify for not fulfilling your failed middle school jock fantasies would shake their collective heads reading these keyboard geniuses' blind criticisms. I suspect the first most important fact they can't grasp is that basketball, especially at this level, is a TEAM game.
Have fun, enjoy the game, but QUIT singling out a player based on a TEAM loss. You'll improve our image as intelligent fans, and it will stop annoying older alumni who have never had it so good.
