Shep continues to be a disappointment. At what point do we just accept that he is average… and maybe I am giving him too much credit. Of course the loss to CSU is disappointing, but they shot lights out. Shep was 0-5 from the field and 2-4 from the line. I'm done… his minutes deserve to go elsewhere. Biggest disappointment this year... Definitely not the most disappointing player. Skyler Spencer is this year. The guy didn't add any offensive move to his game. WSIII will never be the driver of the bus if that is what people expect. Your drivers on this team is Pope and Kell. Both are unfortunately on the bench and we typically resort to them when we dig a big hole in the game. Then we expect them to bring us back and not make any freshmen mistake. We have two options from here on out. We play both freshmen and take a few unexpected losses or bring them along and hope they will be ready for post season play. . Next years team will fit WSIII game a lot better. He will be our true glue guy. Next year starting five: PG Kell, SG Matt Shrigs, SF Shepard, PF Pope, C Chol. Coming off bench DA, Zabo, Chetheam, Spencer, and Hemsley.

Bad screener, fouls alot, can't shoot anything, bad passer and is negative ALOT. Always complaining and whining. Plays with a negative attitude. Not a team player. Bad demeanor. Our inside game is pathetic. Carwell and MaColm were transfers. Dream of the Big Man like Billy White's 30 points AT Gonzaga. Probably the best performance by a Big in Aztec history and doubt it will be repeated. Why can't we a recruit and sign a good Big?

It seems to me this site is for expressing opinions...and feeling empathy when making a post.. The topic WS is not blasting the player..many posts are telling it like it is....Winston has had problems adjusting from day one. Winston and Polee are not a good fit for Fisher's style of 1/2 court offense. Both Flourish in pressuring the ball, excellent in the open court and quick hitting transition after steals. When placed in a box on a short leash..neither.. fair well. AT A Press Oriented/running program. (Cannot play like thoroughbreds on D, then throttle them down to plough horses on Offense)..... both would be All Americans!!... Untie the noose and loosen the reigns on the thoroughbreds sdsu is able to recruit...if not word will spread and these types of players will disappear

And Chol is little better. We just can't recruit true big men with a good offensive game or even average inside game.

Relax. Players have ups and downs. Players still developing Exactly - it was just one game ago when he would have probably gotten a triple double if we were not so far ahead. All players have ups and downs, good games and bad games. We don't rely mainly on one player this year, and that's not a bad thing. We play 9 or 10 every game and that makes us hard to prepare for.

I like Shepard's defense but what a waste of speed, quickness and height. I can't think of an Aztec that has gotten less out of his talent. Even the glue guy is getting a lot more out of whatever his skills might be. Shep needs to focus on being a lock down defender to better help the team now and for his future. That is his only hope at the next level. "The Pope" will continue to develop (Jump shot vs Set shot) and Fisher needs to find ways to get him the ball and let him operate. The Pope has swag and is starting to notice that he has more talent than the guys he's playing against. The Pope will guide the Shepard and his sheep

Seriously people... Stop with junk!! Just go sleep it off. It is frustrating that we can't make any negative observations without responses like this. I can sleep it off but the WSIII line score will still read the same tomorrow. Take it easy, I was respectful with my observations and did not go blitzkrieg with four letter adjectives. My thoughts are not junk… they are simply my thoughts. The Aztec Mesa politburo brooks no dissent.

Nearly every player has their strength and weaknesses, and as much as I pull my hair out at times watching WS III, I feel he is one of our best players. He's a tough defender, can rebound, and is a team leader. Offensively is incomplete and would really benefit with a mid range jumper and improve his FT %. He had a subpar game last night, but he has helped this team on many occasions i.e. the NM game and hope he comes back next year

I remain hopeful. He tried to dunk from the post last night, finishing stronger, which used to be my biggest pet peeve. Fisher says he does the little things, but I don't see it. His three from the corner was short. He watched it. To me, a little thing would be anticipating a miss and following the shot or being confident and sprinting back to defense. He stood near the Aztec bench and worked the body English. Hell, I did that from my couch.
I know what WS can be and have seen him step up. But he and his coaches need to be honest about his progress. It's sad, but at this point I'd rather see my mother-in-law naked than this 6'8" monster athlete who can handle the rock on a fast break. Imagine the cringeworthy YouTube reel one could put together. It must be in his head, because it makes no sense to me.

One of four things happen : gets blocked, charge, bricks, or gets bailed out. Shep should watch JJ down low and pattern his game for next year after him. He should work on his post moves and mid range game this summer. He's already a good rebounder and passer. He definitely shouldn't be running the fast break. Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards

There is a difference between critique/concern and some of the hateful things and some of the hair-fire absolutist things people their out. It's fair game sooner it is a public forum. If one doesn't like to get a heavy response from rational folks, perhaps they should re-think what they put out there. If one agrees that players and families read the forum on occasion, then one should presume that they're are some that will defend there players and coaches when a loud few are spewing their agendas.

He had a bad game, it happens. I think what hurt Winston was the Man on Man defense CSU played against us. So many teams have played Zone on us that WS has figured out how to be effective and efficient against the Zone. Problem is those same spots in a zone where he would be open, he's not in Man to Man. WS was forcing to find his role in the offense and the forcing WS is the bad version on him. He plays best when he's under control and lets the game come to him. He's much better team "In the flow" type scorer then he is a "Feed him the ball and let him eat" type of player. Where I will criticize him for last game is I felt like he let his offense effect his defense and that can't happen. I don't care how bad you're playing on offense, WS has to be focus on the defensive side of the court and I believe that's what caused him to not see much playing time come 2nd half. He has to find ways to impact the game even when his offense isn't working for him that particular night.
Winston Shepard will be fine!!!! When people start lookng at him for what he is and stop looking at his 5 stars coming out of high school, you guys will realize be is a complete team player. The best complete team player we have.

AQ was 2 of 12. Sit him down too. What a disappointment he is. Trey Kell was awful. He should transfer.
You people are ridiculous. Pope won't start over Shepard because winston Shepard knows how to play defense. And despite a great breakout night for Pope, he's still not nearly the defensive player, night in and night out that Shepard is. Stars be damned. Shepard was never a scorer. That's what you guys put on him.

While I agree that Spencer does not bring much to the table offensively, and probably should not be starting, he is not a complainer. In fact he appears to just be a quiet guy to me. Spencer is a good teammate. It does not appear that either of our bigs are fundamentally sound. Is that on the coaches? Who is coaching the bigs? Other then Hutson, our coaching staff is weak. Who teaches offense? Inbound plays? Shooting skills?

My thoughts are not junk… they are simply my thoughts. The difference to me is that after any bad games from anyone there are instantly posts invalidating the whole of that players career. If JJ has a bad night you see posts saying he's bad and wouldn't start anywhere else and isnt good anything. If Sky has a bad night you see posts wondering why he plays ever. We can talk about a player having a bad night (and Shep did 100% have a bad night last night) without going overboard and making it a proclamation on his entire career.
